Research:
Paul Koch Lab
PhD Student (09/2024 - Present) UC Santa Cruz
Pedro Monarrez Paleobiology Lab
Lab Assistant (10/2023 - 07/2024) UCLA
Assisted on NSF-funded study of delayed ecosystem recovery from cryptic degassing following large province volcanism
Examined changes in thousands of species' ecospace utilization through extinction events through literature review and fossil analysis
Tina Treude Geochemistry & Marine Microbiology Lab
Undergraduate Student Researcher (06/2021 - 09/2023) UCLA
Assisted in fieldwork in Carpinteria salt marshes and Marina Del Rey; facilitated sample collection and analysis on research cruises. Worked with the lab group to measure nutrient compositions of collected deep-sea sediment cores.
Wrote research proposals resulting in a $7,700 grant for research in aquatic microbial iodate reduction by sulfur-oxidizing bacteria. Facilitated developing methods, fieldwork, sample collection, and analysis for this project. Results appeared AGU 2023.
NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL)
Internship (06/2022 - 09/2022)
Applied research project improving Volcano Sensor Web thermal classifiers under the NASA Artificial Intelligence Group. I used QGIS, Python, and ArcGIS to isolate hot pixels from satellite data in order to improve natural disaster response time.
Resulting code is running automated to remotely detect volcanic activity globally. Results appeared at IGARSS 2023.
