Over this past summer, I went on a road trip to Moab, Utah with my best friend. To treat ourselves to a view off the beaten path, we decided to brave an early morning wake up, avoiding the crowds by hiking to Utah's Delicate Arch at sunrise. As we scrambled on the climb over the single peak that stood between us and a national treasure, the view was surreal. The sun was not up yet, but what could be seen of the sun’s rising glory hit only the top half of the arch. It was as though the arch itself separated yin and yang, darkness and light. My inspiration for this dreamscape comes from this early morning. The experience was a surreal moment that occurred in reality, and I displayed a figurative dreamscape based off of how I felt within a real landscape. Dark and light have been separated within the portals of this arch, but the connection between the two comes from the human being who freely falls through the triumphs and tragedies of life. The final connection is heaven and earth. We continue to fall through the moral and evil of life on earth as the hands of a higher power reach out until eventually, we stop falling. These hands finally reach us.
