Effective Teacher Talk
Teaching in the language classroom, many of us feel that our instructions are too long or too clumsy, or that we talk too much. Some of us feel less confident than others when explaining a process or giving instructions to a room full of learners.
This session will look at some common examples of useful vs less useful teacher talk, explore some reasons why we might feel we are talking too much, and bring together some techniques for either reducing teacher talking time or making it more efficient.
Anne Wilding is an English teacher at British Council Bilbao, where she has worked for 5 years. Before that she taught in the UK, Morocco, Andalusia, Australia and Taiwan. She considers managing her teacher talk to be a work in progress an an ongoing part of her lifelong professional development.
