shades for migraine

Artist, doula, and meditation teacher Tesha Murrain lives with chronic migraine and is passionate about providing accessible support.

Tesha is a Community Leader for Shades for Migraine for 2023. One of the only Community Leaders from the UK, she will bring her 'special skills, unique experiences and creativity to excel in this vital role in the Shades for Migraine campaign.'

'Community Leaders help strengthen and grow the migraine community by inspiring others to speak out about their experiences and reassure them that they are not alone. Additionally, their outreach efforts can help migraine-adjacent community members better understand what life is like for the people in their lives that do have the disease.' – Shades for Migraine website

Shades for Migraine is a social media awareness campaign by the Association of Migraine Disorders as a way to create buzz around a disease that affects more than 1 billion people worldwide.

This year, Tesha is running her own campaign in Birmingham UK to engage the city, giving away hundreds of Shades for Migraine purple glasses – stay tuned on her Instagram to find out more!

Every year, people living with migraine and their friends, families, and coworkers post pictures on social media wearing sunglasses on (and around) June 21, the longest day of the year. Participants use the hashtag #ShadesForMigraine and challenge others to take part to make the campaign go viral.

Sunglasses are a visual representation of an invisible symptom of migraine called photophobia (or extreme sensitivity to light). This campaign is an opportunity for people to share their connection to migraine disease. Since 2017, 40-plus countries have participated with over 20 million people reached annually.
