Terrapin Tally training will take place in two parts.  The Pre-Training Orientation is a self-guided / asynchronous presentation and should be completed prior to attending one of the live instruction training sessions listed below.

Pre-Training Orientation

In the orientation we will go over the background of the Terrapin Tally project, terrapin natural history, and discuss the next steps for participating in the surveys.  This training can be done anytime before attending a live training session and should take approximately 15 - 25 minutes. 

The Orientation Pre-Training will take you through three video segments.  After each segment, you need to hit NEXT under the slide to advance to the next segment.  Training is complete after hitting SUBMIT at the bottom of the final segment survey questions.  After hitting SUBMIT the screen should say, "Congratulations! You have completed Terrapin Tally Orientation."

Terrapin Tally 2026 Training 

Volunteers should register for ONE of the sessions listed below.  When registration is open, you will be able to click on the date to go to the registration page.  From this page, click on the 'Sign Up' box.  Make sure you are signed in to your Track It Forward Account. New volunteers will be prompted to create a new account.

• April 11th , 10am - 12pm - In person at Carolina Beach State Park visitor center

• April 18th , 10am - 12pm - In person at Hammocks Beach State Park Hurst Hall

For Returning Paddlers

Volunteers who previously attended Terrapin Tally training/s and successfully participated in a data collection session (entering data through the Survey123 App) can renew their credentials through participation in an online Returning Paddler's Review.

New, rusty, or returning volunteers who simply enjoy an in-depth review should attend one of the two in-person training sessions listed above.

Data Collection Survey Sign-up

You must attend training and register in Track It Forward to sign up for a Terrapin Tally survey below.  After selecting your preferred date and site, enter the PASSWORD provided at training to access the sign-up page.  If you are not signed into your account, you will be prompted to sign in or select "Register" to create an account. Review 2026 training slides or recording for guidance. Dates are available during three weeks in May - use slider bars to see all of the possible data collection dates. 

All paddlers MUST have a partner and access to equipment (kayak, PFD, smartphone) before signing up for a survey.  Paddlers and their partner should sign up for the survey at approximately the same time, one volunteer registering for the first space and the other volunteer registering for the second space. This is to avoid overlapping with other teams.
