Dear friends and benefactors,
Many apologies for the delay in keeping this website up to date! Our brothers have been awfully busy finishing their exams and wrapping up the semester. As you know, in the theologate, the brothers take the summer for special formation experiences to help them in their growth as Missionaries of the Holy Spirit. We would like to share with you what each of our brothers will be doing this summer, as well as some major news about the future of this community.
Br. Jaime
Br. Jaime is close to concluding his novitiate. This summer he will be in San Antonio, preparing his heart for the next step on his journey. He is discerning along with our superiors about making his first profession of vows as a Missionary of the Holy Spirit. The date for his profession has not yet been decided, but, God willing, Br. Jaime's profession will probably take place in July or August this year. Please keep Br. Jaime in your prayers as he prepares to make this wonderful commitment!
Br. John
This summer Br. John will have the opportunity for many different experiences. He will be traveling to Philadelphia, PA for a special summer class as part of the Hispanic Scholars Program. It will be a two-week intensive course where he will be studying with people from distinct Christian backgrounds, not just Catholic. The program is ecumenical in nature and will be an enriching experience. Br. John will spend most of his summer in Mexico visiting communities of Missionaries of the Holy Spirit that specialize in serving priests. These include the Rougier Foundation, an institute that helps priests recover from addiction, and Casa Conchita, the facility where our elder, retired brothers are cared for. In visiting these communities, Br. John seeks to further solidify his identity as a Missionary of the Holy Spirit and continue discerning his call to the priesthood and religious life.
Br. Oscar
Br. Oscar will be traveling to Jesús María in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. He will be spending the summer there for his second novitiate. The second novitiate is essentially a specialized version of the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises where our brothers enter into intense reflection about their time in formation in order to discern more faithfully and honestly their call to be Missionaries of the Holy Spirit. This is an important step before the perpetual profession of vows. By the end of the summer, Br. Oscar will submit a petition to make his perpetual profession and, God willing, he will make the commitment to be a Missionary of the Holy Spirit forever. No dates are set at this time for Br. Oscar's perpetual profession, but we will be sure to let you know as soon as we have that information!
Br. Rene
Br. Rene is spending a good portion of the summer taking classes as part of his Master's degree in Theology and Ministry. Throughout the year Br. Rene has been taking classes through Boston College online, but this summer he will be traveling to Boston to take part in his classes in person. Then, he will be traveling to Mexico for spiritual exercises to prepare for his ordination to the diaconate. That's right! Br. Rene will soon be Deacon Rene! Details will be provided below, but his ordination is scheduled to take place on August 14th at 4pm at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Oxnard, CA. If you have a chance to be there, you are most welcome!
Fr. Domenico
This summer Fr. Domenico will be accompanying Br. Jaime as he brings his novitiate to a close. At the same time, he will also spend some time working on a special project that covers the history of the Missionaries of the Holy Spirit in the U.S. After three years of service in San Antonio, Fr. Domenico is being reassigned to the community in Mt. Angel, Oregon. In this new assignment he will have the opportunity to focus especially on the history project and it will also be an opportunity for him to rest and move at a gentler pace. We are grateful for Fr. Domenico's accompaniment with us over the past few years and we hope that this new assignment will be a joyful experience for him.
Changes in the Theologate
When school resumes in August, the theologate will be looking different. To take Fr. Domenico's place and continue the work as formation director for our brothers studying theology, Fr. Celso Marquez has been assigned to the theologate community. But wait, there's more! Once Br. Rene becomes a deacon, it will be time for him to exercise his diaconate and gain more pastoral experience. To do this, he too will be moving out of the theologate community. His new assignment has not yet been confirmed, but we will likely know the answer on the day of his ordination. Br. Jaime's future destination is also uncertain. It is likely that after making his profession he will be moved to a different community where he can continuing growing in his identity as a Missionary of the Holy Spirit. In any case, the theologate community is getting smaller, small enough that our superiors have decreed that our community will be packing our bags and moving into the rectory of the St. Luke's community where we will accompany Fr. Joel, the pastor of the parish community, and establish deeper ties with the people there. Please keep all of us in your prayers as we transition into our new communities and make bold new steps in our commitment to God as Missionaries of the Holy Spirit.
Updates
For the next few months we will be unable to update this website, but if you are signed up for our newsletter, you will continue to hear from us in the mail. Last time we said that we would no longer be printing any more issues of our newsletter, but guess what? Yes! We will be printing more! There was an issue in receiving copies of the latest Provincial Newsletter, so to make up for it, you will be receiving special edition version of Joseph's Newsletter during the summer. We are very sorry if all of this is confusing to you. It was an error on our end. Hopefully in August we will get back to mailing you the Provincial Newsletter and keeping this website up to date!
Thank you so much for your patience and your friendship. Please keep us i your prayers, and please keep praying for vocations. We recently heard that there are seven young men who are actively discerning their vocation to be Missionaries of the Holy Spirit and it looks like all of them might be entering the postulancy this year. Our formation takes a long time, so it's going to be several years before we have more ordinations. Please, keep on praying.

¡Les pedimos mil disculpas por el retraso en la actualización de este sitio web! Nuestros hermanos han estado muy ocupados terminando sus exámenes y cerrando el semestre. Como saben, en el teologado, los hermanos aprovechan el verano para realizar experiencias de formación especiales que les ayuden en su crecimiento como Misioneros del Espíritu Santo. Nos gustaría compartir con ustedes lo que cada uno de nuestros hermanos hará este verano, así como algunas noticias importantes sobre el futuro de esta comunidad.
Hno. Jaime
El Hno. Jaime está a punto de concluir su noviciado. Este verano estará en San Antonio, preparando su corazón para el siguiente paso en su camino. Está discirniendo junto con nuestros superiores la posibilidad de hacer su primera profesión de votos como Misionero del Espíritu Santo. La fecha de su profesión aún no se ha decidido, pero, si Dios quiere, la profesión del Hno. Jaime tendrá lugar probablemente en julio o agosto de este año. ¡Por favor, mantengan al Hno. Jaime en sus oraciones mientras se prepara para asumir este maravilloso compromiso!
Hno. John
Este verano, el Hno. John tendrá la oportunidad de vivir muchas experiencias diferentes. Viajará a Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, para asistir a un curso especial de verano como parte del Hispanic Scholars Program. Se trata de un curso intensivo de dos semanas en el que estudiará junto a personas de distintos orígenes cristianos, no solo católicos. El programa es de carácter ecuménico y será una experiencia enriquecedora. El Hno. John pasará la mayor parte de su verano en México visitando comunidades de Misioneros del Espíritu Santo que se especializan en el servicio a los sacerdotes. Entre ellas se encuentran la Fundación Rougier, un instituto que ayuda a los sacerdotes a recuperarse de la adicción, y Casa Conchita, el centro donde se atiende a nuestros hermanos mayores jubilados. Al visitar estas comunidades, el Hno. John busca consolidar aún más su identidad como Misionero del Espíritu Santo y continuar discerniendo su llamado al sacerdocio y a la vida religiosa.
Hno. Oscar
El Hno. Oscar viajará a Jesús María, en San Luis Potosí, México. Pasará allí el verano para realizar su segundo noviciado. El segundo noviciado es, en esencia, una versión especializada de los Ejercicios Espirituales ignacianos, en la que nuestros hermanos se sumergen en una intensa reflexión sobre su tiempo de formación con el fin de discernir de manera más fiel y honesta su llamado a ser Misioneros del Espíritu Santo. Este es un paso importante antes de la profesión perpetua de votos. Al final del verano, el Hno. Oscar presentará una solicitud para hacer su profesión perpetua y, Dios mediante, se comprometerá a ser Misionero del Espíritu Santo para siempre. Por el momento no hay fechas fijadas para la profesión perpetua del Hno. Oscar, ¡pero nos aseguraremos de avisarles tan pronto como tengamos esa información!
Hno. René
El Hno. René está dedicando buena parte del verano a asistir a clases como parte de su maestría en Teología y Ministerio. A lo largo del año, el Hno. René ha estado tomando clases en línea a través de Boston College, pero este verano viajará a Boston para asistir a sus clases en persona. Luego, viajará a México para realizar unos ejercicios espirituales con el fin de prepararse para su ordenación al diaconado. ¡Así es! ¡El Hno. René pronto será el Diácono René! Los detalles se proporcionarán más adelante, pero su ordenación está programada para el 14 de agosto a las 4 p. m. en la Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe en Oxnard, California. P. Domenico
Este verano, el P. Domenico acompañará al Hno. Jaime en la etapa final de su noviciado. Al mismo tiempo, dedicará parte de su tiempo a trabajar en un proyecto especial sobre la historia de los Misioneros del Espíritu Santo en los Estados Unidos. Después de tres años de servicio en San Antonio, el P. Domenico será reasignado a la comunidad de Mt. Angel, en Oregón. En este nuevo destino tendrá la oportunidad de centrarse especialmente en el proyecto de historia y también será una oportunidad para que descanse y lleve un ritmo más tranquilo. Estamos agradecidos por el acompañamiento del P. Domenico con nosotros durante los últimos años y esperamos que este nuevo destino sea una experiencia gozosa para él.
Cambios en el teologado
Cuando se reinicien las clases en agosto, el teologado tendrá un aspecto diferente. Para ocupar el lugar del P. Domenico y continuar el trabajo como formador de nuestros hermanos que estudian teología, se ha asignado al P. Celso Márquez a la comunidad del teologado. ¡Pero eso no es todo! Una vez que el Hno. René sea ordenado diácono, será el momento de que ejerza su diaconado y adquiera más experiencia pastoral. Para ello, él también se mudará de la comunidad del teologado. Su nuevo destino aún no se ha confirmado, pero probablemente sabremos el día de su ordenación. El futuro destino del Hno. Jaime también es incierto. Es probable que, después de hacer su profesión, sea trasladado a otra comunidad donde pueda seguir creciendo en su identidad como Misionero del Espíritu Santo. En cualquier caso, la comunidad del teologado se está reduciendo, lo suficiente como para que nuestros superiores hayan decretado que nuestra comunidad haga las maletas y se traslade a la rectoría de la comunidad de San Lucas, donde acompañaremos al P. Joel, párroco de la comunidad parroquial, y estableceremos vínculos más profundos con la gente de allí. May the peace of Christ be with you!
This month in the community things have been pretty ordinary. The student brothers have been working diligently and made it through their midterms successfully. On Friday March 6 Br. Rene took the community to Purgatory Creek near San Marcos, TX. We went on a hike together out there as part of our day off—and it was a beautiful day for a hike too! Other than that, it's been pretty much business as usual: studying and working.
Right now we are starting to turn our sights onto Holy Week and Easter. For Holy Week our brothers will be serving in different places. Br. Rene will be on his way to Long Beach, CA to help our brothers in Vocations Ministry with a special retreat for young men discerning their vocation. Br. Jaime will be in Hillsboro, OR to serve during Holy Week. There will also be a vocational retreat in Mt. Angel at that time and Br. Jaime will be helping the vocations team with that. Br. John will be serving in Los Angeles. Br. Oscar will be in San Antonio serving at the Catholic Worker House and Fr. Domenico will be celebrating the Easter Triduum with the Sisters of Perpetual Adoration, also in San Antonio. By the time we all gather again in San Antonio we will be on a fast track to the end of the semester.
We hope your Lent is going well and that it is bearing spiritual fruit for you. If you feel that your Lent hasn't been fruitful or that you haven't been able to pray with more fervor, don't worry. Sometimes it only takes a single moment for God to make a profound impact on your life. Remember that you are His beloved child and He is ready to embrace you.
May the Holy Spirit continue to lead you through the spiritual desert to find the oasis in the Risen Lord this Easter.

¡Que la paz de Cristo esté con ustedes!
Este mes, en la comunidad, todo ha transcurrido con bastante normalidad. Los hermanos estudiantes han estado trabajando con diligencia y han superado con éxito sus exámenes parciales. El viernes 6 de marzo, el Hno. René llevó a la comunidad a Purgatory Creek, cerca de San Marcos, Texas. Hicimos una caminata juntos como parte de nuestro día libre, ¡y fue un día precioso para ello! Aparte de eso, todo ha seguido como de costumbre: estudiando y trabajando.
En estos momentos estamos empezando a centrar nuestra atención en la Semana Santa y la Pascua. Durante la Semana Santa, nuestros hermanos prestarán servicio en distintos lugares. El Hno. René se desplazará a Long Beach (California) para ayudar a nuestros hermanos del Ministerio de Vocaciones en un retiro especial dirigido a jóvenes que están discerniendo su vocación. El Hno. Jaime estará en Hillsboro (Oregón) para prestar servicio durante la Semana Santa. También habrá un retiro vocacional en Mt. Angel en esa fecha y el Hno. Jaime ayudará al equipo de vocaciones en esa actividad. El Hno. John prestará servicio en Los Ángeles. El Hno. Oscar estará en San Antonio prestando servicio en la Casa del Trabajador Católico y el P. Domenico celebrará el Triduo Pascual con las Hermanas de la Adoración Perpetua, también en San Antonio. Para cuando nos reunamos de nuevo en San Antonio, ya estaremos en la recta final del semestre.
Esperamos que tu Cuaresma vaya bien y que te esté dando frutos espirituales. Si sientes que tu Cuaresma no ha sido fructífera o que no has podido orar con más fervor, no te preocupes. A veces, a Dios le basta un solo instante para tener un impacto profundo en tu vida. Recuerda que eres su hijo/hija amado/amada y que Él está listo para abrazarte.
Que el Espíritu Santo continúe guiándote a través del desierto espiritual para encontrar el oasis en el Señor Resucitado esta Pascua.
¡Oraciones y bendiciones para todos y cada uno de ustedes! ¡Nos vemos al otro lado!

The Provincial Newsletter has news from each of our communities in the U.S., not just our Theologate. This way you get to hear a little from every one of us. This website will continue to be updated with news and videos from our Theologate community, but our monthly newsletter will be discontinued. Fr. José de Jesús New Assignment
Fr. José de Jesús New Assignment
Our brother, Fr. José de Jesús Sánchez, has changed communities. He will now be living in our Provincial House in Oregon to continue his medical treatments for his cancer. Fr. José is in good spirits and doing very well. Being in Oregon will help him be closer to his doctors. Please keep him in your prayers.

¡Nuestro hermano, el P. José de Jesús Sánchez, se ha trasladado a otra comunidad. Ahora vivirá en nuestra Casa Provincial de Oregón para continuar con sus tratamientos médicos contra el cáncer. El P. José se encuentra de buen ánimo y le está yendo muy bien. Estar en Oregón le permitirá estar más cerca de sus médicos. Por favor, manténganlo en sus oraciones.

This month has been a little bit more relaxed in terms of activities. Brs. Jaime, John, and Oscar traveled to Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico on the last weekend of January to take part in the annual Brothers in Formation Reunion. This year, Br. Oscar was in charge of coordinating the event. The event took place from January 30 until February 2 in CECAP (Cross of the Apostolate Spiritual Center) where 29 of our brothers in formation gathered in a moment of fraternity. Every year our brothers gather for this event primarily for them to get to know the new novices and reconnect with one another. Since the majority of our brothers are doing their formation in Mexico, this event is always done there. We also have brothers in Spain, Italy, and Brazil who were not able to travel, but they did join virtually for some parts of the event. The brothers continue to express that this event is vital for growing in communion and identity as young Missionaries of the Holy Spirit.
The following weekend, Fr. Lino Ruelas, General Vicar and head of basic formation in our congregation, arrived to visit our community in San Antonio. He has been going around visiting all of the communities to speak to us about our upcoming General Chapter. Yes, next year our congregation will hold its 18th General Chapter in which our brothers will gather to discern what the Holy Spirit is asking of us moving forward. Along with presenting material to help our community prepare for this important gathering, Fr. Lino also wanted to know how each of us was doing, so he made time to speak to each of us, one-on-one. On February 8, all of us, with Fr. Lino, went to visit our brothers in the community of St. Luke to watch the Super Bowl together. Br. John was particularly excited to cook up some burgers and hot dogs (he is a very good cook!). Fr. Jorge Haro was also excited and made sure to decorate accordingly. Unfortunately, the football game itself was rather boring. We were all rooting for the Seahawks since we have a community over in Seattle, except for Br. Rene who was supporting the Patriots since he is now a student at Boston College. We felt sorry for him. We enjoyed the halftime show. Most of us aren't very familiar with Bad Bunny's work, but it was so nice to see a bit of our culture showcased on the national stage. And if you didn't understand what he was saying, don't worry, most of us didn't either!
Now we're getting ready for Lent. It arrived way too quickly! But that just means that Easter is arriving quickly also! As we walk towards Easter, please be sure of our prayers for you. Este mes ha sido un poco más tranquilo en cuanto a actividades. Los HH. Jaime, John y Oscar viajaron a Guadalajara, Jalisco, México, el último fin de semana de enero para participar en la Reunión Anual de Hermanos en Formación. Este año, el H. Oscar se encargó de coordinar el evento. El evento tuvo lugar del 30 de enero al 2 de febrero en el CECAP (Centro Espiritual Cruz del Apostolado), donde 29 de nuestros hermanos en formación se reunieron en un momento de fraternidad. Cada año, nuestros hermanos se reúnen para este evento, principalmente para conocer a los nuevos novicios y reencontrarse entre ellos. Dado que la mayoría de nuestros hermanos están realizando su formación en México, este evento siempre se celebra allí. También tenemos hermanos en España, Italia y Brasil que no pudieron viajar, pero se unieron virtualmente a algunas partes del evento. Los hermanos siguen expresando que este evento es vital para crecer en comunión e identidad como jóvenes Misioneros del Espíritu Santo.
El fin de semana siguiente, el P. Lino Ruelas, Vicario General y responsable de la formación básica en nuestra congregación, vino a visitar nuestra comunidad en San Antonio. Ha estado visitando todas las comunidades para hablarnos sobre nuestro próximo Capítulo General. Lino también quería saber cómo estaba cada uno de nosotros, por lo que se tomó el tiempo para hablar con cada uno de nosotros, uno a uno. El 8 de febrero, todos nosotros, junto con el P. Lino, fuimos a visitar a nuestros hermanos de la comunidad de San Lucas para ver juntos el Super Bowl. El Hno. John estaba especialmente emocionado por preparar unas hamburguesas y unos hot dogs (¡es un cocinero excelente!). El P. Jorge Haro también estaba emocionado y se encargó de decorar el lugar adecuadamente. Por desgracia, el partido de fútbol americano en sí fue bastante aburrido. Todos apoyábamos a los Seahawks, ya que tenemos una comunidad en Seattle, excepto el Hno. René, que apoyaba a los Patriots, ya que ahora es estudiante en el Boston College. Lo sentimos por él. Disfrutamos del espectáculo del medio tiempo. La mayoría de nosotros no estamos muy familiarizados con el trabajo de Bad Bunny, pero fue muy agradable ver un poco de nuestra cultura exhibida en el escenario nacional.

Dear friends and benefactors,
The peace of Christ be with you! We hope you had a wonderful Christmas time. Here in the community we have started up a new semester. We began the new year with a retreat. The brothers traveled to Dallas, TX for the SEEK youth conference and met up with Sr. Monica, FSpS and our brother vocation directors, Fr. Rito and Fr. Celso. After the retreat ended, the community gathered again in San Antonio and began with a time of reflection and preparation for the semester to come. Fr. Peter and Fr. Alex arrived to celebrate the Mass on January 11 at St. Luke parish where Brs. Oscar and John were officially instituted as acolytes for the Church. It is another small step on their journey toward the priesthood! On January 13, the entire Family of the Cross in San Antonio gathered for Mass to support our sisters, the Religious Sisters of the Cross of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, in the foundation of their new community in San Antonio. This is only their second community in the U.S., the first being in Modesto, CA. Their mission is to pray for priests and seminarians before the Blessed Sacrament. On January 16, we celebrated Br. Rene's birthday with a delicious Italian dinner, on the 17th, the brothers accompanied our sisters, the Daughters of the Holy Spirit at the Mass for their 102nd anniversary of foundation, and on the 18th we celebrated Fr. Joel's 21st priestly anniversary with the parish community of St. Luke. Lots of celebrations! Now we are in full swing of things and looking forward to what is to come.
We would like to take this opportunity to share with you that our newsletter, Joseph’s Newsletter, will be merging with our community’s provincial newsletter. What this means is that, starting April 2026, you will be receiving a monthly newsletter from the Missionaries of the Holy Spirit that features all of our communities in the U.S., not just our theologate. You will still be receiving envelopes to send in donations, but since the newsletter will now cover all of our communities, it will be necessary that, when you send your donation, you specify to which community you would like your donation to go to. However, we will have more details on this as April approaches. For now, you will be receiving our newsletter as normal. For more news and updates, please see our website.
As we continue our journey through this new year and prepare our hearts for Lent, let us pray in a special way for our nation during this tumultuous time. May God our Father protect our brothers and sisters who are suffering persecution and change the hearts of those who are causing all this pain and suffering. May Jesus Christ give you strength to live the Gospel every day and be of firm mind and heart. May the Holy Spirit, the source of all purity, communicate that purity to you through the Cross and keep your minds, bodies, and souls always pure and without stain. Amen.

¡La paz de Cristo esté con ustedes! Esperamos que hayan tenido una maravillosa Navidad. Aquí, en la comunidad, hemos comenzado un nuevo semestre. Empezamos el nuevo año con un retiro. Los hermanos viajaron a Dallas, Texas, para asistir a la conferencia juvenil SEEK y se reunieron con la Hna. Mónica, FSpS, y con nuestros hermanos directores vocacionales, el P. Rito y el P. Celso. Una vez finalizado el retiro, la comunidad se reunió de nuevo en San Antonio y comenzamos con un tiempo de reflexión y preparación para el semestre que tenemos por delante. El P. Pedro y el P. Alex llegaron para celebrar la misa el 11 de enero en la parroquia de San Lucas, donde los hermanos Oscar y John fueron instituidos oficialmente como acólitos de la Iglesia. ¡Es otro pequeño paso en su camino hacia el sacerdocio!
