EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION:
This is an assignment that you can complete in the comfort of your own home!
With this assignment, you are asked to observe a piece found in the Standard of Excellence Book 1 (Pearson) method book. The piece is found on page 29, #131 - Theme From "Symphony No. 9" by Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827). Don't have the Standard of Excellence book? No problem! Everything you need for this assignment can be found on your worksheet, which can be found on the dropbox menu under "Assignment" at the top of the page. From there, click on "Worksheet Downloads." You will need to print out the worksheet to complete it at home.
On your worksheet, you will find a copy of the original excerpt from the Standard of Excellence book at the top of the page. Below, you are asked to compose three different variations of the original excerpt, combining various tempos, dynamics, and articulations. There is a list of terms at the bottom of your worksheet, but you are encouraged to do your own research and utilize unique tempos, dynamics, and articulations.
If you are having trouble understanding what makes each tempo, dynamic, or articulation different, feel free to explore this website and refer back to the audio examples provided.
If you would like an example of how this assignment might look, hover over the dropdown box under "Experience" at the top of this page, then click "Example." There, you will find a completed worksheet and audio examples of how each combination would sound.
After you complete your worksheet, play your unique combinations on your instrument to hear how various tempos, dynamics, and articulations manipulate and affect even the same piece of music!
