Become a Host Farm

Temple Hall 4H Club has been in existence for over 20 years due to the kindness of volunteer farmers in Loudoun County, Virginia. Farmers have been generous with their time and willingness to share their knowledge. Our 4Hers help to support farmers with assisting in the care of livestock and keeping up with the chores necessary to maintain a farm.

Our club is looking for more host farms to join our club.

  • At minimum, host farms hold eight farming sessions a year where members learn and help. Many farmers host weekly to bi-monthly sessions but this is entirely up to the farmers' preferences. Activities are up to the farmer and their comfort level. In the past, sessions have included basic care such as feeding, cleaning water supply, cleaning pens, laying bedding, and setting up pens for lambing. Over time, members have had the opportunity to help with parasite screening, bracing animals for the administration of medications, trimming hooves, tail docking, ear tagging and more. Members have also supported farmers during the Loudoun Farm Tours each spring and fall.

  • If allowing a project animal to go to compete in the Loudoun County Fair, farmers allow the members to work and care for the project animal eight times. The project animal is then at the fair for one week at the end of July. The 4H member is responsible for the care and monitoring of the animal. The Temple Hall Club Leaders also track the care of the animals from our club to ensure they are cared for while at the fairgrounds.
