ESTABLISHED in 2010 at Sogang University.....The Institute of Biological Interfaces at Sogang University was established as a university-affiliated research institute by Professor Kwanwoo Shin in 2010. In 2018, it was designated as a University Key Research Institute by the Ministry of Education. In 2020, it secured our Insitute, hosting “Biointerface Core-facility Center.” The Institute at Sogang University is now leading pioneering research in various artificial cell studies, including artificial cell membranes, the functional control of membrane proteins, and artificial photosynthesis using light.
INSPIRED BY Prof. Rafailovich at Garcia Center.....The Institute of Biological Interfaces was inspired by the Summer program at the Garcia Center for Engineered Polymeric Interfaces at Stony Brook University in the United States, under the guidance of Prof. Shin’s advisor. Prof. Miriam Rafailovich, the Director of the Garcia Center, initiated a science camp for local high school students as part of the MRSEC program’s outreach in 2017. Today, this camp has become one of the most renowned science camps in the United States, providing gifted high school students with guidance in various engineering research areas.
OPEN TO EVERYONE..OPEN SCIENCE. Teilhard Camp was created with the spirit of Citizen's Science and Open Science, emphasizing that science belongs to all of us. We pursue science and technology that can be utilized, learned, and shared by everyone. Our aim is to provide science education not just to a select few but to anyone who wants to learn and share. Therefore, we affirm that the goal of science and technology is to understand and empathize with people, to care for our neighbors, and to benefit humanity. In this context, appropriate technology is one of the initiatives pursued by Prof. Shin.
