Open Call: Join TwMC to make movies with us this summer!
This July....
A Summer Media Arts Fellowship for
Teens in the City of Syracuse (Ages 14-19)
Please fill out the form linked above to express interest & apply for our upcoming Summer fellowship to make movies together from July 7 - July 24, 2026.
Taking inspiration from visionary experimental filmmaker Maya Deren (who once lived as a teen in Syracuse) we will use our creative freedom and imagination to explore themes such as "Defying Gravity" &"Overcoming the Impossible" that encourages teens, and all of us, to try our best not to give up and to strive to reach the stars. ★
The works created in this summer's workshop will contribute to a larger film that combines the diverse voices and visions of teen filmmakers into one feature-length piece — an exciting new experiment in cinematic co-creation!

TwMC Fellows invest themselves fully in the ~3 week collaborative production experience. Committed participants will be recognized for their engagement and may receive a modest honorarium if funding will be available.
No prior media experience is needed or expected! We welcome curious, interested teens from all backgrounds in the city of Syracuse and nearby communities, eager to think and create outside the box. ■○
Teens with a Movie Camera (TwMC), founded in 2024, is a collaborative community media program that empowers teens of Syracuse to express themselves imaginatively through moving images. Partnering with local cultural & educational organizations, a creative cohort of TwMC Fellows will participate in a three-week intensive creative media collab, producing short films and contributing to a shared creative vision in collaboration with media artists connected with Syracuse.
TwMC provides a hands-on, artist-led environment where teens become active creators rather than passive consumers of media. TwMC Fellows experiment and create in a friendly, supportive artistic environment while building confidence, collaborating with peers, and enjoying the process.
Across four cohorts, about 50 teens have participated in the program. Films in TwMC's "TeenReels" series have been projected on the façade of the Everson Museum of Art in downtown Syracuse, screened at the Watson Theater on SU Campus, exhibited at ArtRage gallery, selected for film festivals, and more!
Then make a movie today! We welcome and invite your creativity year-round.
Take a look at our prompts (or invent your own), create an original short movie,
and share your work with us here to begin participating in the TwMC collective:
Anyone can be a filmmaker, using the camera in your pocket, the imaginative ideas in your mind, and perhaps the help of friends, family, neighbors, and communities....
Work with what you have, where you are. Be smart, make art!
