The last 25 years have transformed Indian society fundamentally based on its encounter with IT. As a leading IT training and research center in India, IIIT-Hyderabad is organising a week-long monsoon school to interrogate key issues at the interface between digital technology and society.
The monsoon school is intended primarily for advanced students currently pursuing a postgraduate or PhD programme. Individuals with professional experience of working in the IT industry, the government, and NGOs will also benefit from this.

The Monsoon School will investigate the multi-faceted interface between digital technology and modernity from the vantage point of the Global South, in particular, India. The deliberations will aim to delineate the specific contours of digital modernity for India. It shall attempt to bridge empirical investigation to a broader conceptual understanding of questions like: Where are we situated as a digital society within the broader framework of modernity? How does a modernity as variegated as India’s, hold together the digital divide on the one hand, and global economic and cultural flows on the other?
