This is an example of an e-book. E-books are great examples of UDL in action. UDL creates choice and options for students with all different levels and needs including auditory/visual and learning differences. This project allowed me to experiment with different features for e-books. E books, specifically have the ability to offer text as well as text to speech, or recorded audio along with pictures and/or video. Having visual and audio options for all students makes access easier for any and all that need it. E-books are a great way for students to be given information about content, as well as a possible way for students to show their learning.
This e-book was created by me with Book Creator, however there are several ways to create e-books, and as well as published books availbale on websites or to be downloaded as possible alternative options for texts read in class (this might be an example of Asssited Technology for a specific student's needs), or a whole class option (UDL)
Understanding a student's specific needs is the first step in being able to differentiate work to fit a student's needs. No student can be defined in one term (smart, lazy, hard working, etc) every one has things that come easier than others. Understanding the strengths is an asset to being able to work on the weaknesses. Being able to build in specific programming that help the specific student, whether that is specific Assistive Technology needs, or scheduling needs (like breaks)
Padlet is a tool that can be used with all students. It can be a way for students to show what they know (as in exit card style), ask anonymous questions, or organize. Padlet has the ability to add photos (taken in the moment, or stored), videos, links from the web, voice recorings, hand drawn options, and even the ability to add maps! This makes this a great resource for all students for an assignment, or a jumping off location for a project, or as previously mentioned a toold for students to use to show their learning with numerous flexible ways.
Voice Thread is another great tool for Universal Design... It offers the ability to share material, links, videos, personally created slides, annotated with audio recordings if desired, or real time drawings to expand on what is on the slide. Commenting can be done in text, audio or video. It can be used to share assignments, have students comment/share their thinking, or use it as an assessment tool/project designed by students to show their learning.
The content IN this Voice Thread is a sample of web-based tools to aid in learning about and finding a variety of Assistive Technology tools. Learning about assistive technology and how to help students with specific learning disabilities is an important piece of using technology to help in education and life endeavors.
Diigo is a web vased tool that collates resources . Resources can be bookmarked, tagged with numerous tags for easier searching later, and shared with groups. Notes can be taken on resources in the Outliners tool. Sources can be higlighted and annotated, and more. The following link is the beginning of a curration of AT Resources found this week
