The purpose of this website is to provide ideas about how to successfully integrate technology in the classroom and some resources that are available. Educational technology is a great resource for facilitating student learning and engagement. Providing students with technology in the classroom is a great way to allow students to be creative learners and become independent in their learning. Technology use in the classroom can be equitable for all students by modifying how the technology is used to ensure that all students can benefit from instruction, and also by making sure students have equal access to the technology being used. Using assistive technology in the classroom is another way to make technology use equitable because it helps increase access to the technology tool for all students (Dieckmann & Villarreal 2001). To ensure the ethical use of the technology tools being used in the classroom, communication should be professional and personal information or content should not be shared in the classroom. Students should understand what proper online behavior looks like and what respectful use of the technology tools means. Topics such as cyberbullying, confidentiality, and academic integrating should be discussed with students before technology is integrated into the classroom. The discussion should also include a set of rules for using technology and an explanation for why those rules exist (Mattison, 2018). Students have a social responsibility to use technology in a respectful manner and should be taught how to be responsible online by having multiple opportunities to put these skills in practice. This can be done by helping students create their digital footprint, connecting the class by creating a class page where students can post, chat, and learn from each other in a safe environment, or encouraging students to use the technology to show a school activity or project they have completed (MacBury, 2017).
