The listed employees on LinkedIn are Amit Daga (CEO), Rahul Sharma (COO) and Vikas Arora (CTO). The domain name was registered on December 31, 2016.

Filmywap has been reported to be blocked and removed from various countries including some in Asia, Africa, South America such as Brazil and many parts of Europe.

Following are the complaints of censorship by Filmywap. The site is still up and running in many countries of Europe.

The website has been blocked or taken offline in some countries such as India, although users can easily access it using a VPN or proxy server. In 2014, Filmywap's website was blocked using a court order by the Indian government due to piracy issues but this decision has recently been reversed according to Vikas Arora as reported on Twitter.

The website has been removed several times and has been blocked in many countries due to pressure from copyright owners and their agents. Several attempts have also been made to get the site blocked in the UK by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI). However, these attempts failed as there was no court order. BPI did not provide any explanation for its attempt to get Filmywap blocked in the UK.

Filmywap is currently being sued by a law firm in India for infringement of copyright laws. Since 2016 the site has been taken offline several times as a result of court orders. The legal case, filed in Hyderabad, India, is owned by Kireet Khurana, founder and CEO of Cineyug Digital Studios and Entertainment Limited.
