Updraft Unit I
Updraft Unit II
Updraft Unit III
Role: Primary intercept vehicle
Description:
Updraft Unit I is a lifted Ford F-150 built for direct storm interception. It’s equipped with a full mesonet system, reinforced front end, upgraded suspension, and custom storm tires for traction in debris-covered terrain. While not armored, it’s tuned to handle close encounters with stronger tornadoes when used with caution. Used for core intercepts, live data relays, and positioning ahead of storm paths.
Role: Secondary support and probe deployment
Description:
Unit II is a modified Toyota Tundra designed more for storm research and community engagement. It features a probe bay, radar tablet mount, and light off-road capability. While it’s not built to drive into tornadoes, it assists with flanking positions, probe drops, and maintaining a safe backup visual from the rear. Used in lighter terrain or educational setups.
Sometimes used for rougher terrain due to higher lift!
Role: Hail core penetration & data capture
Description:
Updraft Unit III rolls in STOCK but flexin’ HARD with aggressive offset wheels and sleek custom rims to keep that style on point while hunting hail. No crazy armor or mods—just raw Nissan grit built to cruise into hail cores and capture every dent and drop.
It’s perfect for close-range hail research with minimal fuss, letting the driver focus on staying nimble and mobile in brutal hailstorms while logging data.
Upcoming Convoy Expansion – Three New Interceptors on the Horizon
With the 1.22 update approaching, Team Updraft is expanding its fleet in a major way. Three new intercept-class vehicles are currently in development — each custom-built to suit the unique storm chasing styles of our members. The Tornado Attack is being designed as a rugged, fast-response unit with advanced mobility for sharp intercepts and rapid repositioning. The Dorothy will focus on raw durability and defensive positioning, offering extreme protection during close-proximity encounters. And the Tornado Puncher, built as the flagship core interceptor, will bring unmatched reinforcement and mesonet capability for direct intercepts of the strongest tornadoes in Twisted. These additions mark a huge step forward in our mission to collect better data, chase harder, and push closer than ever before. DRIVERS OF EACH VEHICLE IS UNKNOWN
PROBES
Used By: Updraft Unit I (Ford F-150)
Role: Vertical Wind & Pressure Array
Description:
Deployed from the primary intercept vehicle, the TWISTEX tower is a high-precision probe that collects wind direction, speed, and pressure at multiple levels. Best for structured deployments ahead of slow-moving or predictable storms, this probe helps map near-surface tornado dynamics and inflow zones during controlled intercepts.
Used By: Updraft Unit II (Toyota Tundra)
Role: Compact Core Probe
Description:
Deployed by the Tundra’s crew during fast intercept missions, TOTO is a lightweight, drag-stable probe used to gather direct low-level pressure, wind, and temperature data from inside tornado cores. Quick to deploy and built to withstand brief contact with tornadic winds, it's perfect for drop-and-go style missions during chase-critical moments.
