For this phase of the project, team needed to design the payload for our lifting mechanism. This meant each group member needed to brainstorm a payload design that our lifting mechanism would need to interact with in the next phase. The goal during this phase was to plan ahead and make sure this design would work well for grappling. Once we chose a design, we could not change our decision. We used the software Cura to find the bounding boxes and calculate the volume of our chosen payload.
The payload must be easily grabbed by the grasping mechanism our group must design in the next phase.
The payload must rest within the grasping mechanism tight enough to withstand forces of lifting and rotation from making it come loose and be dropped.
Must fit within a 1.5” x 1.5” x 1.5” cube and occupies a minimum volume of 1 cubic inch
Must be able to be printed using fused deposition modeling with 0.6mm nozzle and a 0.15mm layer height

Pros:
-Simple design
-Works on all sides of box
Cons:
-Could be loose if not precise
Brenden Prefer
Pros:
-Multiple grasping angles
-Angled inlets create more ease of grabbing and more contact with robotic arm.
Cons:
-Complicated design would be difficult to recreate in SolidWorks

Pros:
-Lots of notches, should be easy to lift.
-Should sit level
Cons:
-Weird shape may not work with all claw arms
-Expensive to manufacture
This design was chosen because it provided the regions for the robotic arm to grab. The payload is a cube that has its surfaces cut away into angled funnel towards the center. This allows for robotic arm to create a more secure seal against the payload due the increased surface area and angles of contact. While it may prove more difficult to create a 3D model of this design, the advantages of this payload will benefit the functionality of the robotic arm. The complex shape will give the robotic arm a larger room for error to grab the payload and lift it.
