Period 6 Engineering Research and Design
In 2018, according to the National Fire Protection Agency, almost three of every five home fire deaths resulted from fires in homes with no smoke alarms (40%) or no smoke alarms that were working (17%). A Smoke Alarm power source can prove to be unreliable.
Smoke alarms are the main way we detect fires before they cause substantial damage. According to the NFPA and U.S. Fire Administration, since 1975, the number of Home Fire deaths were cut nearly in half. Our project is to find a way to design and modify a new way of making sure fire alarm power sources do not fail. We so far have done preliminary research to make sure that our problem is a accurate and actually a problem. With this information, furthering the research and the investigation into fire alarms, we will be able to sufficiently design a way to fix the problem.
Meet The Team
Josue Camba, a senior at Edison High School, is an aspiring Mechanical Engineer. Though faced with great poverty throughout most of his childhood, he has learned to make the most out of his resources. Although he was only introduced to chess a year prior, he learned quickly and won a minor Chess Tournament in which he beat a cheater. Although he may not be the most outgoing person, he makes friends easily and is quick to defend others. He plans to graduate High School and enter a good College, hopefully Stanford, and buy a huge house for his mom.
Steven is a Senior at Edison High School, dedicated to helping his peers in any way that he can. Drawing during most of his childhood has led up to him finding his artistic side again which is why he is mostly intrigued in the design and artistic aspect of projects. Having organized and thought out ideas is what helps him bring the team together. During middle school, he made the decision of transferring schools and lost contact with all his friends in the process. He has since made new friends and made amends with his old ones.
A senior at Edison high school, Jordan has shown a great interest for engineering. As Jordan, in the 3rd grade overcame not walking for 6 months and had to do things in a wheel chair, he still continued his journey through school and had to adapt to that way of life. One of Jordan's great accomplishment is that before middle school, he used to get average grades (B's and C's). Then when he entered middle school, his attitude changed and began getting better grades. Something personal about Jordan is that he strives to be the very best he can even though it may not seem so in the eyes of others. His short term goal is to graduate from high school and get accepted into a college and his long term goal is to work for a tech company and own a house.
A senior at Edison High School and bringing to the team several years of presentation experience as well as a background in 3D printing, Aiden Montano plays his part as a supporting role among his team. Thinking outside the box is his specialty and pushes his colleagues to reach goals never even imagined. He is a team player, and will always get the job done. He has been apart of many small and major leadership groups, including team of youth counselors for the Majoree Mason Center promoting healthy relationships. His goal is to peruse a career in design science and inventing ways to make peoples lives easier.
