World of Narnia

Battle for the Throne

In this immersive boat dark ride, guests relive the Battle of Beruna, the climactic ending to The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.

The attraction's upper level, with Standby and Fastpass queues and first show scenes.

In the queue, the cyan marking is a potential bypass for days where the queue is shorter.

The attraction's lower level, with the majority of the show scenes.

This level also includes some backstage area for shops.

Poster in queue that prophesies that Spring is coming.

Ride Layout

The queue begins by climbing up a staircase and through the front door of the Cair Paravel palace. Walking through the rooms of the palace, guests see old books and artwork of the prophecy of two sons of Adam and two daughters of Eve.

At the loading zone, the previous group of guests disembarks from the ride vehicle, and cast members help your group board a vehicle.

The ride itself is rather slow-moving (except for the small drops) but there is a lot of action that adds to the suspense, especially in the battle scenes.

After leaving their boat, guests move through a small switchback exit queue before rounding a corner and exiting through a final themed hallway that celebrates the new royalty of Narnia. Guests leave the Palace to the left of the front doors. The exit ramp (which also serves as the handicap entrance) proceeds back to the lake.

Pirates of the Caribbean's boat-style vehicles

Ride System

The ride system used in this attraction is very similar to that used at the Pirates of the Caribbean in Anaheim/Orlando/Tokyo, with similar boat-style vehicles. As with Pirates of the Caribbean, it is mostly a flat ride with a couple of small drops.

Attraction Synopsis

(While most of the storyline of the ride is taken directly from the film, some thematic license is taken)

After departing the loading zone, the boats travel through the Narnians’ base camp in daylight as they prepare for a battle. All of the characters are Animatronics. In the following scene, guests watch as Jadis and Aslan have their heated exchange of words.

In the next scene, it is now dusk. Guests see the children looking on as Aslan departs from their midst. Aslan’s last words are, “Thank you, Susan, and farewell!”

In the next scene, guests see Aslan at the Stone Table surrounded by Jadis and the other wicked creatures. Next, Aslan is bound up and Jadis uses her Stone Knife to kill him. Lights go mostly dark and dissonant music plays in the background (until the scene is reset for the next boat).

Going under a stone archway, guests find themselves in daylight with the Battle of Beruna beginning. The most striking visuals are the gryphons who are dropping giant rocks on Jadis’ army.

Next, guests see Aslan resurrected on the Stone Table. Mr. Tumnus is restored to life in the ice palace. Peter combats Jadis, but it’s all interrupted by a roar. Aslan pounces on Jadis and then finishes her off. Edmund is restored to life with Lucy’s firewater juice.

The final scene of the ride is the coronation at the Palace. Guests then return to the loading zone to disembark.

The coming of Spring

Inside the White Witch's giant ice palace is a log flume attraction, The Coming of Spring, that relives a part of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe while adding a thrill for guests.

Ground Floor (final show scenes, queue, and loading/unloading zone)

Second Floor (show scenes and final drop)

Ride Layout

The entrance to the attraction is on the opposite side of the lake from World of Narnia's other headlining attraction, Battle for the Throne, to minimize crowding. From the entrance, guests can see the ride vehicles entering a cave from the lake. The queue leads directly into a circular chamber, where it winds back and forth around a central ice sculpture of Jadis, the evil queen who has cast a spell over all of Narnia. Guests exit this chamber into a switchback queue area before finally reaching the loading zone.

At the loading zone, the previous group of guests disenbarks from the ride vehicle, and cast members help your group board a vehicle.

As the ride begins, guests turn a corner and go up a lift hill, while enjoying the ambient fiber optics and projections in the ice walls around them. At the top of the lift hill, the vehicle turns left, and the show begins. The path winds around the upper floor of the attraction building, before finally reaching the climactic 50-foot drop into the lake. The boats move through the lake back to the other side of the building, where they reenter the building through a cave-themed entrance. Guests experience the final few show scenes before rounding a bend and returning to the loading zone.

After leaving their log, guests move through a small switchback exit queue before rounding a corner and exiting through a final themed hallway.

Splash Mountain's log-style ride vehicles

Ride System

Ride vehicles are logs, similar to Splash Mountain at the Magic Kingdom.

Attraction Synopsis

(While most of the storyline of the ride is taken directly from the film, some thematic license is taken)

After the lift hill, guests see Jadis, the white witch herself, interrogating Edmund about the location of his siblings. Jadis also turns Tumnus to stone, using a combination projection/Pepper's Ghost effect, an improved version of an effect used in Pirates of the Caribbean.

Guests pass through a themed doorway and believe themselves to be outside. On the left they see Peter, Susan, Lucy, and Mr. and Mrs. Beaver journeying to the Stone Table.

Soon, on the right, guests can see Edmund, Jadis, and Ginarrbrick, Jadis's dwarf assisstant, in the witch's sledge, journeying to find Edmund's siblings.

A giant show scene to the left of the guests involves animatronic wolves nearly catching the children and Mr. and Mrs. Beaver.

Soon, on the right, the guests can see the children and the Beavers meeting Father Christmas, as he explains that spring is finally coming.

The log's path begins winding and fluctuating a bit as spring unfolds around the guests. Birds chirping, snow dripping, and the sounds of water dripping add to the ambient, subconscious experience. Guests see the frozen waterfall breaking on their left, and they plunge down the 50-foot drop into the World of Narnia central lake.

After re-entering the show building, the children can be seen finding Aslan, before guests move back to the loading zone.

Attractions Thought Process

Two water attractions in a single land may turn heads, but the two rides will be the two first in the park. Two water rides in a single land are not without precedent; Toon Lagoon in Universal's Islands of Adventure has a total of two rides, Popeyes and Ripsaw Falls, both are water-based attractions. The lack of water-based attractions is partially why water plays such a major role in the World of Narnia. The lagoon takes up an enormous amount of space but it was definitely necessary to create a lively World of Narnia and establish a well-rounded park.

An expansion pad is baked into the Aslan's Camp section of the World of Narnia, as at the time of the land's completion, only one of many planned Narnia films had come out. The expansion pad will be filled with new components that are introduced in subsequent films. It would be naive to build such an enormous project without the potential for future expansion.
