ICYMI: Team Maasinso successfully launched Himsog Maasin Nutrition Program
Himsog Maasin Nutrition Program, a 2-phase nutrition program of Team Maasinso, in partnership with Barangay Maasin, Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay Maasin, Rural Health Unit of Ipil, I CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE and NVC Foundation - Negrense Volunteers for Change, was successfully launched last November 24, 2024, at the Barangay's Multipurpose Covered Court.
Phase 1 will be implemented for 3 months and 30 beneficiaries will be given daily Mingo as complementary feeding. Mingo is a nutritious instant complementary food made of rice, mongo (mung beans), and malunggay (moringa), produced by one of our partners, Negrense Volunteers for Change.
Phase 2 will involve the sustainability phase and provide capacity-building activities to improve proper food preparation and access to healthier food sources.
During the launch, Benjadid Kyle Isa, one of the program leads, emphasized the importance of community involvement and shared responsibility in ensuring that no child is left behind. It was followed by the discussion about Mingo by Ronald Villano and Proper Nutrition by one of our Barangay Nutrition Scholars, Bernardita Bacornay.
Other activities included the distribution of the one-month Mingo supply, ceremonial weigh-in, logo reveal, and Mingo samples were served.
An interpurok Healthy Gulay Cooking Competition was also conducted, with Purok Mahayahay winning as Healthiest Dish, Purok Malipayon as Best Nangka Dish, and Purok Centro as Most Unique Dish. All 5 recipes will be included in our Himsog Maasin Nutribook to be distributed to our beneficiaries.
The program ended with a pledge of commitment and signing of the covenant.

Team Maasinso conducted a refresher session during the Family Development Session of 4Ps beneficiaries.
This is one way of ensuring retention among community members on the importance of Proper Sanitary Toilet and sanitation practices, Proper Solid Waste Segregation, and Proper Nutrition.
Members of the team also emphasized the important role that each of them plays in achieving our shared goal of creating a healthier Maasin.
The team would like to extend their gratitude to the 4Ps Municipal Link assigned in Barangay Maasin, Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay, Sir Melvin Ello.

We are grateful to the Local Youth Development Office (LYDO) of Ipil for inviting our team to share the programs, projects, and activities to address the different health problems in our community.
The LYDO gathered active youth organizations in the municipality last December 10 to discuss and craft the 3-year Local Youth Development Plan (LYDP) focusing on 10 Centers of Youth Participation which include health, education, and environment The Team presented the implemented programs that can be replicated in other barangays, and to look into possible areas for partnership. The LYDP, once finalized, will be cascaded to every Sangguniang Kabataan in the municipality to align their programs, projects, and activities.
Team Maasinso believes that active youth participation is significant for nation-building.

Bayanihan Spirit!
Members of the Barangay Local Government Council of Barangay Maasin, Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay, and some residents, worked together in the spirit of Bayanihan to relocate the waste collection facility near Maasin Elementary School.
This effort aims to inspire and educate young children about the importance of proper solid waste segregation, fostering environmental awareness at an early age.

Barangay Maasin Chairperson Hon. Rodolfo R. Garcia takes the lead in the installation of the Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials posted in strategic locations in the barangay, such as the Barangay Outpost, Maasin Elementary School, Purok Malipayon Center, and the Barangay Health and Nutrition Center.
The IECs will serve as supplemental knowledge source for the residents of Barangay Maasin about Proper Toilet Sanitation, Solid Waste Management, and Proper Nutrition. The IECs were funded by the BLGU of Barangay Maasin, Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay.

In celebration of National Children's Month, Team Maasinso discussed the 12 Rights of a Child, the Effects of smoking and vaping, and the Effects of alcohol during the barangay's culminating activity organized by the Sk Maasin and BLGU of Barangay Maasin, Ipil, last November 23, 2024.
The activity was attended by 30 participants who actively participated in the different activities prepared by the team.

Team Maasinso attended the Second Semester Barangay Assembly of Barangay Maasin as mandated by the DILG held last November 17, 2024, at the Multipurpose Covered Court.
The team presented the current status of the Community Health Plan Implementation and the upcoming programs, projects, and activities. The team also emphasized the important role that every community member plays in achieving the different goals.

SEAning sets sail in Maasin
In collaboration with Team Maasinso, The I CAN Team brought SEANING to the kids in Maasin, Zamboanga Sibugay! The kids were immersed in the storytelling session 'Delfina and Friends,' followed by a colorful journey through the pages of 'Dolphins Love Freedom' coloring book by Environmental Artivist AG SAÑO. This unique book inspires awareness about marine life and habitats, fostering environmental protection and climate change mitigation through art. Lessons on kindness, responsibility, and marine conservation left a lasting imprint on the children's hearts.
Brgy chair, SK Chair join ENR Ambassadors
Barangay Chair Rodolfo Garcia and SK Chair Aidrian Soronio took their oath to be a part of the Environment and Natural Resources Ambassador.
The ENR ambassadorship gives member LGUs more opportunities to participate in various activities and programs of DENR.
The BLGU also pledges to support and prioritize various programs on environmental protection and solid waste management.
Young Environment Saviors! ready to become heroes of the environment
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Environmental Management Bureau 9 in partnership with ADZU-SOM Team Maasinso, I Can Make a Difference, BLGU Maasin and SK Maasin conducted the Young Environment Saviors (YES!) Maasin on March 14, 2024.
The activity gathered 55 Maasin youth for a one-day activity. Selected youth participants underwent an intensive session and activity-filled workshops to improve their knowledge, skills, and attitude about environmental protection, proper solid waste management, and develop a YES! Project Plan.

Mingo on the go!
Team Maasinso will be implementing the 90-day nutrition program in partnership with Negrense Volunteers for Change (NVC). The Himsog Maasin Program will target 30 children 0-59 months who are undernourished and will be given a Mingo Supplemental Food.

Happy Feet for a Happy Kid!
102 pairs of slippers were distributed to Maasin Elementary School students as part of the advocacy in promoting hygiene and sanitation among the children last March 6, 2024. The principal of MES, Mr. Alfredo Decena expressed gratitude to Team Maasinso and emphasized the importance of such an activity.
Happy Feet is a flagship project of Team Maasinso to promote hygiene and sanitation.
FGD among CHP beneficiaries
A focused-group discussion was conducted among beneficiaries of the sanitation and nutrition program of Team Maasinso. The activity aimed to discuss the proposed program for sanitation and nutrition and asked for their commitment to participating and supporting the program. All beneficiaries present expressed enthusiasm for the implementation of the various programs and projects.

Members of Team Maasinso were divided into two to assist at the Rural Health Unit. This activity is part of the community immersion and one way of honing the skills of the medical students in assessing and performing physical examination in preparation for their hospital clerkship.
Team Maasinso conducts post-evaluation during FDS
A post-evaluation was conducted during the Family Development Session of 4Ps beneficiaries last March 7, 2024. The goal of the activity was to evaluate the knowledge and skills of the beneficiaries who attended the health education conducted last September 2023. The participants were given a gameshow-like method of assessing their knowledge and were asked to demonstrate some of the important lessons on proper sanitation, proper solid waste practices and nutrition.
Team Maasinso joins BLGU Session
The members of Team Maasinso joined the Barangay Local Government Unit (BLGU) regular session last March 6, 2024 to provide updates on the implementation of the Community health plan. The team also took the opportunity to meet the new members of BLGU Council. They also followed up on the counterpart to be provided by the BLGU.

For we believe that access to healthcare is the right of everyone, especially for the residents of Barangay Maasin.
The Team Maasinso, in partnership with the Barangay Maasin Local Government Unit and Ipil Municipal Health Office, conducted a Barangay Health Day last August 31, 2023.
In this event, the Medical Students of ADZU-SOM and the Barangay’s NDP, Ma’am Kristine Laxina, spearheaded the Health Symposium. The goal of this is to address the different health issues in the community. The topics that were discussed were mainly focused on Family Planning, Nutrition, Sanitation, and Solid Waste Management. We hold the view that the health of an individual should be approached holistically.
Simultaneously, the Ipil Municipal Health Office provided healthcare services like Medical Consultations and Operation Tuli, where the Medical Students and the Barangay Health Workers also assisted.
It was such a fruitful day. We can’t wait to have more events like this. To more future collaborations!

Our Barangay Health Workers and Nutrition Scholars are using Sanicare Charcoal Facial Cleansing Wipes to keep them sanitized and the Cheers Eco-Glassine Paper Bags as receptacles for medicines and other items.

BASTA WIPES, Sanicare!
The Team Maasinso, together with the Community of Barangay Maasin, conducted a Barangay-Wide Search & Destroy Kontra Dengue and Clean-Up Drive Activity last August 22, 2023.
The said activity was initiated to prevent the further increase in the number of Dengue cases in the barangay. Aside from this strategy, the community was also urged to practice the other aspects of 4s Kontra Dengue.
The Team Maasinso had the chance to take part in the multi-sectoral meeting on the finalization of the Barangay Development Plan (BDP) of the Barangay Maasin last August 19, 2023.
With this, the different sectors of the barangay (i.e., Senior Citizens, Indigenous People, Women’s, etc.) were able voice out their concerns and provide suitable plans for their respective organizations.
The ADZU SOM Medical Students are in!
Some members of the Team Maasinso were assigned at Ipil Rural Health Unit to do consultations last August 14, 2023.
The Sk Maasin, headed by SK Chairman Hon. Greg Oliver Garcia Epat, in partnership with the Team Maasinso, conducted a Youth Health Summit on August 15, 2023 at Maasin Covered Court.
The team, together with the Barangay’s NDP, Ma’am Kristine Cybill Buendia Laxina, addressed the different health issues in the community. Such topics like Sanitation, STIs, Solid Waste Management, Teenage Pregnancy, Family Planning, Nutrition, and Dengue were amongst that were discussed earlier.
We are so grateful to the youth of Barangay Maasin for the participation. For we believe that they are the hope of the future.
We are one with the Sk Maasin as we celebrate the first day of the Linggo ng Kabataan.
Some of the members of the Team Maasinso were invited to become judges for the Dance and Singing Competition.
We are so thrilled by how talented and great the performances of the youth were!
The Team Maasinso, together with the SK Chairman Hon. Greg Oliver Garcia Epat and the other members of the Sk Maasin, gathered and discussed about the upcoming activities for the celebration of the Linggo ng Kabataan which will be held from August 12, 2023 to August 16, 2023.
The Team Maasinso will conduct the Youth Health Summit on August 15, 2023 which will be participated by around 50 youth of Barangay Maasin.

The team was warmly welcomed by the barangay’s NDP, Ma’am Tin, the Barangay Health Workers,
and the rest of the lovely people of Barangay Maasin.
Our team lead for Proper Solid Waste Management together with leads from other barangays met with the MENR Officer to discuss partnership and collaboration between the different teams and their offier.
This is to ensure that our programs are also in line with the thrust and priorities of their office.
To build a stronger partnership with the Barangay Local Government Unit of Maasin, our team presented the status of the various programs, projects and activities to address the prioritized problems of the community.
The BLGU also identified the partner BLGU Official to work hand in hand with our project leads in the implementation of the PPAs. They also vowed their support for the approval of the different resolutions and ordinances to be discussed in their succeeding sessions. This is one way of ensuring co-ownership of the BLGU in the accomplishment of our vision towards creating a model community for health and empowerment.

The Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) Provincial Operations Office of ZSP is one with Team Maasinso in promoting and ensuring sanitary toilet condition, proper solid waste management, and proper nutrition, among others, towards a healthier and more empowered community.
Our team conducted a health education and awareness campaign and discussed the very important role that the community will play in achieving the goals and objectives of our programs during the Family Development Session. We also distributed seeds and will inspect the status of their toilet facility, backyard garden, and solid waste management on the next immersion.
Together with the ZSP POO, led by PL Evalinda Jimeno, we will look into other strategies and initiatives to improve the overall health status not only of 4Ps beneficiaries but of the entire Barangay Maasin, by strengthening the multistakeholder partnership.

Thank you BEAGIVER for providing us with the details and assistance to start our campaign to help the students of Barangay Maasin, Ipil, ZSP. We will launch our campaign very soon and are so excited for this partnership!
We are looking fo partners to help us create a healthier and empowered Maasin.
Some members of Team Maasinso conducted an inventory of supplies and materials at the Barangay Health Station to ensure that available medications are safe, and materials and equipments are functional.
This is also a way of identifying lacking supplies and materials to seek for assistance from the BLGU, MLGU and other partners to provide better health services to the people of Maasin.

Our team took the opportunity to meet with the Senior Citizen Association of Brgy Maasin during their monthlty meeting to conduct a Mass BP and explain the different programs, projects and activities that the team will be implementing together with the community.
The team explained the importance of the support and partnership that the association will provide to achieve the goals and objectives.
This approach is anchored on the Bridging Leadership Model to let the communitiy understand their situation and for them to own their problems before finally implementing the different PPAs.

Team Maasinso, composed of ADZU-SOM Medical Students, Barangay Health Workers, together with Brgy Chair Garcia, conducted a Mass BP for residents who are 20 years old and above at Purok Malipayon, Maasin.
The team also conducted a health education and awareness session to discuss the importance of sanitary Toilet, proper solid waste managament and proper nutrition. They also presented the various programs, projects and activities that will be implemented to address their prioritized problems. This is one way of ensuring and strengthening community participation and accountability.
They also inspected the proposed site for the Purok Material Recovery Facility (MRF), community garden and pond.

Building Partnership!
Team Maasinso met with the Provincial Link of Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) of ZSP, Evalinda Jimeno and Social Welfare Officer III Crezel Revantad on February 28, 2023 to present the programs, projects and activities in addressing the problem on lack of access to sanitary toilet, poor solid waste management and malnutrition, among others.
The meeting forged the partnership between Team Maasinso and 4Ps ZSP Cluster to strengthen the participation and collaboration especially among 4Ps beneficiaries in our community.
This is just the start of a strong partnership towards a healthier and empowered community!
To strengthen the support of our community, Team Maasinso attended the regular Barangay Council Session presided by Brgy. Chair Hon. Rodolfo Garcia last February 21, 2023.
The team presented the various programs, projects and activities (PPAs) to address the prioritized community health problems identified by the community. The project heads presented the objectives of each health plan, and a counterpart lead from the BHW and BLGU was also identified.
Hon. Garcia, in behalf of Brgy. Maasin, assured the team of their full support on the implementation of the various PPAs.

Team Maasinso visited Maasin Elementary School last February 21, 2023 to discuss with the principal, Mr. Decena, the various programs and activities that the team will be implementing to address the problem on Malnutrition and Poor Solid Waste Management, as well as to establish support and partnership.
Together with the project leads, they also inspected the Wash Area, computer library and proposed mini library. Other gaps and needs of the school were also discussed.

In preparation for the implementation of the various Community Health Plans (CHP), Team Maasinso conducted a meeting today to discuss strategies, identify partners and assign tasks to members of the team.
The team will also meet with the Barangay Local Government Unit, Barangay Health Workers, Sectoral Representatives and development partners to present and finalize implementation strategies to achieve the objectives of the team.
Team Maasinso composed of 7 medical students of the Ateneo de Zamboanga University School of Medicine conducted a community consultation during their first community exposure.
The goal of the activity is to discuss with purok leaders various problems and challenges that they experience in their community, as well as to prioritize the identified problems and plan possible interventions.
The Level 1 students of Ateneo de Zamboanga University School of Medicine began their first community exposure in the Municipality of Ipil on March 26-April 23, 2022.
Seven (7) barangays were identified namely: Maasin, Timalang, Tomitom, Labe, Dona Josefa, Lumbia and Suclema.
The objectives of the community exposure are: establish rapport with the community, gather relevant data, identify community problems and prioritization.
Community Participation for Development
To ensure community and stakeholder participation, the Team Maasinso conducted three (2) days sectoral meetings among the communities of Barangay Maasin, Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay Province. on September 20-21, 2022.
The primary purpose of the meeting is to inform the LGUs, the barangay captain, the kagawads, purok leaders, barangay health workers and officers of various sectors on the information gathered on the house to house survey, particularly the problems and challenges that was identified throughout the conduct of the survey. The participants were asked to prioritize the identified problems and plan possible interventions to the problems prioritized.
This is in line with the team's approach on Convergence.
The two (2) days sectoral meetings culminated on the afternoon of Sep 21, 2022.
Team Maasinso conducted their first house-to-house survey in Purok Centro, Barangay Maasin, Ipil, ZSP on August 31, 2022.
Together with the Barangay Health Team of the barangay, they visited a few houses to assess the health status of the households.
The team will gather primary data thru the house-to-house survey of households in the barangay.

After settling into their new home, Team Maasinso pays a visit to Maasin Elementary School.
The goal of this visit is to educate children about the importance of the COVID-19 vaccine and to strengthen the #PinasLakas campaign of the National government. They also discussed other health advantages such as hand washing, eating healthy foods like vegetables, and so on.

No rainfall can hinder the team from going to the farthest purok in the Barangay.
For the first time, the team visited Purok Mahayahay to conduct house-to-house survey.
They were assisted by Kagawad Julieta Benegay and some staff of the Barangay Health Station.

Tuesdays are long days at the Maasin Barangay Health Center.
To meet all the local residents' needs regarding their health, all the healthcare workers are on hand.
As medical students, we offer our assistance to the healthcare workers. We take patient histories, help some expectant mothers with their prenatal exams, and even get to administer vaccinations while being supervised by the nurse and midwife of Barangay Maasin.

Tuesday is a long day for both barangay local government units and healthcare staff. They assemble every Tuesday of the week to address updates on everything that concerns them as public servants and potential solutions to every issue.
The team of Medical students assigned in the Barangay paid a courtesy visit and attended the regular BLGU session. The team introduced themselves and presented the objectives of the second community immersion. They also asked for the assistance of the BLGU and the community in the conduct of their house-to-house survey.
The BLGU, thru Capt. Rodolfo Garcia expressed their all-out support to the medical students.
Team Maasinso is always on deck when it comes providing assistance to the barangay health center. It also enhances their knowledge and skills in taking patients' histories and performing physical examinations by assisting barangay health workers in the health center as a few parents consult their children's health and providing health education for family planning.
The "PinasLakas" campaign is an initiative of the Department of Health (DOH) targeting to boost the Covid-19 booster vaccination rate across the country by making vaccines accessible to the people in their workplaces, transportation terminals, and drugstores, among other places.
To help achieve the goal of the campaign, the medical students of ADZU-SOM participated in the second dose vaccination of elementary students.
The children of barangay Maasin were courageous enough to receive their COVID-19 vaccination, which was a touching sight for the Maasinso team to witness. Nurse Tin and Midwifery Nene asked the support and assistance of the Maasinso team.

Covid-19 still still here!
This was the message of midwife Marietta Obordo to some residents of Barangay Maasin who had their first dose of Covid-19 Vaccination.
Team Maasinso composed of seven (7) medical students of the Ateneo de Zamboanga University School of Medicine assisted the DOH employees namely Mrs. Marietta Obordo, Midwife, and Kristine Cybill Buendia Laxina, NDP Nurse, in the conduct of COVID 19 Vaccination in the said community.
This activity intends to enhance the proportion of the community of Barangay Maasin to have their COVID-19 vaccination and booster shot in order to contribute and maintain the nation's barrier of immunity.
Second Day House-to-House Survey
On September 1, 2022, the house to house survey was continuously conducted in Barangay Maasin. The activity aims to gather information regarding the living condition of the people in the area, most especially on their health status.
The survey was done for several days as most of the people are living in some remote and mountainous areas of the said barangay.
Turn-Over of Quarantine Facility
On September 15, 2022, the Team Maasinso attended the turn-over of the Multipurpose COVID 19 Quarantine facility of Barangay Maasin. The turn-over was formally officiated by Mr Alfred Delos Santos representing Dr. Ann Hofer, the Provincial Governor of Zamboanga Sibugay Province.
The facility was formally accepted by Hon. Rodolfo Garcia, the Barangay Captain of the said barangay together with all the Barangay officials.
The activity started at about 4:30PM and ended at about 5:30PM of same date.
