In Frozen 2, the Enchanted Forest is a mystical realm located far north of Arendelle... Inhabited by the Northuldra, an indigenous tribe inspired by the Sami people of Norway, this dense, magical environment is ruled by four elemental spirits: air, fire, water, and earth.
For over 34 years, the forest was sealed by an impenetrable mist that trapped both the indigenous Northuldra tribe and a group of Arendellian soldiers within its borders. This curse was triggered by a violent conflict from King Runeard, who built a dam under the guise of friendship- but actually intended to weaken the Northuldra's magical resources...
Step into Northuldra: World of Frozen, an immersive landscape where the familiar kingdom of Arendelle fades into the misty, ancient mysteries of the Enchanted Forest. The land serves to create a unique way of featuring the Frozen IP in WDW without just jamming an outdated retheme in the Norway Pavillion. As a perfect expasnion of the existing Enchanted Forest, this subland delves deeper into the Frontier of Fantasyland as you travel Into the Unknown!
The entrance is marked by four towering stone monoliths that pulse with a soft glow, parting to reveal a wild forest of autumn colors and drifting fog. This land serves as a living tribute to the five spirits of nature, blending the rustic Northuldra culture with the raw power of the elements.
The crown jewel of the land is Frozen: Spirit of Ahtohallan, an LPS trackless dark ride that glides through the shimmering glaciers of the river of memory. The journey travels through three massive show-rooms where "ice memories" come to life through physical sets and projections.
In the story, Olaf is taking you on a tour of Atohallan to reach the Grand Memory Chamber where Elsa is waiting. Passing through different memories along the way, the ride allows for some fun moments throughout the Frozen movies that aren't featured in other rides across the world to all coexist in one epic trackless ride.
Like Beauty and the Beast at Tokyo, there are three main "dance rooms" where the trackless vehicles interact with an all-encompassing show scene. These scenes are inspired by three contrasting styles of music from both Frozen 1 and 2, featuring Arendelle in "For the First Time in Forever," the Enchanted Forest with "Lost in the Woods," and the epic journey of "Into the Unknown" with an impressive Elsa animatronic that moves around the room. It all culminates in a breathtaking finale within a grand, crystalline chamber where dozens of memory fragments swirl around the vehicles in a synchronized dance of light and music.
The land also features side experiences with all elements invovled. The Fire Spirit takes place at Bruni’s Trail of Fire, a walkthrough path inspired by the layout of the Moana attraction at Epcot. Instead of water, this experience focuses on heat and light. Guests use hand gestures to "tame" the playful salamander, triggering real fire effects, flickering embers, and glowing heat signatures that dance along the rocks and trees as the path unfolds.
Gale’s Whirlwind Adventure offers a gentle but whimsical experience themed to the Wind Spirit. This ride lifts leaf-shaped baskets straight up and down in a playful, bouncing motion. To bring the invisible spirit to life, the attraction uses localized gusts of air and whistling sound effects, making it feel as though the wind is lifting the baskets up to the treetops (basically Jumpin' Jellyfish at DCA but with sound effects).
The Nokk’s Torrent is a high-thrill spinning Disc-O ride that slides back and forth along a curved track. Representing the violent nature of the Dark Sea, the ride incorporates heavy water effects and mist cannons. As the disk spins, waves of water spray across the riders, simulating a wild attempt to tame the stallion amidst a crashing ocean storm.
Deep in the forest, the ground begins to tremble with the final attraction- the Earth Giant Encounter. This experience features a colossal animatronic giant that towers over the landscape. Through the use of heavy-duty floor vibrators and booming spatial audio, the earth "shakes" with every movement of the stone beast, creating a massive sense of scale as the giant "awakens" to acknowledge those passing through its territory. This is similar to the Ice Dragon at Epic Universe.
