Welcome to Main-er, Maim Street, the newest land at Universal Studios Florida! This street may look like just an ordinary neighborhood, but watch out...there's something wicked around every corner!
Taking a walk down Maim Street, guests can treat themselves to a viewing of Little Shop Live!, a half-hour retelling of Little Shop of Horrors outside Mushnik's Flower Shop (or step inside the shop to look for a Little Shop souvenir or two), drop by a familiar-looking cabin for an old-fashioned Evil Dead madhouse dark ride, maze on Slasher Street, and join Beetlejuice's Escape from the Maitlands' house on a wild roller coaster ride they'll never forget. The Horror Make-Up Show has also found a new home here, sure to delight (or frighten) guests as it always does.
Be on the lookout for these details sprinkled throughout the Street:
While walking through the land, you may be looking up or around you for horrors that may lurk around any corner, but don’t forget to look down…
While sewer drains pepper the land’s curbs, one specific one actually houses a sinister secret: lurking in the darkness is an animatronic of the character Pennywise from Stephen King’s IT, a film licensed from Warner Bros. alongside much of the land’s IP.
Pennywise is keen to interact with guests walking by with pre-recorded lines that get triggered if people walking trip a sensor located within the grate in front of it. Pennywise may invite guests to join him in the sewers, claiming that “we all float down here” or asking them if they like popcorn before making popping noises.
For the safety of the guests (and the animatronic), there is a piece of plexiglass in the drain to make sure no guests stick their hand in to take their paper boat and get dragged in like poor Georgie.
In the front yard of one of the houses, an innocuous white slat fence stands, yet those in the know may walk by and get a chill as they pass by. If you peek through a rotted hole in the wood, you may see an eye and muzzle looking back at you and will trigger a loud bark that may send a guest stumbling back.
It seems the iconic horror villains aren’t the only ones running amuck, it seems Gale Weathers of Woodsboro Action News is out investigating as a news van is parked on the street side. Every so often throughout the day, Gale Weathers may come out to do a news report on the going’s on, even interviewing passers-by who may have seen one of the many killers out and about.
When wandering through the land, plenty of iconic houses or storefronts may stand out, but sometimes the most iconic bits that stand out are a simple lamppost, such as the one from The Exorcist sitting right outside the iconic house. This lamp is the perfect spot for an iconic photograph beneath the light, the house may even play along with flashing green lights coming from the window during the night.
The Ghostbusters return to Universal Studios after a long time missing and arrive in their famous hearse turned ghost catching car the Ecto-One. Venkman, Stantz, Spengler, and Zeddemore will arrive in the vehicle before stopping ghosts invading the town that appear using projection mapping on the buildings.
This stage show utilizes pyrotechnics, projection mapping, and live actors and thus when they arrive, part of the walkway is blocked off for the safety of the guests and the performers.
The land is filled with the presence of many icons from horror films throughout history. Many of these characters can be found lurking in the land all throughout the day. Brave guests may approach and get some pictures with their favorite slashers, demons, ghosts, and final girls alike.
Some of the characters that can be met in the land are listed below. Not all characters are guaranteed to be present throughout the day or even every day, so you’ll never know who you’re going to see!
