"My Happy Place" was the first complete painting I had done on canvas. It was intended to be a project for my grade 10 art class but it ultimately led to an inclination to recreate places and moments of beauty. This is the painting that made me want to continue creating; to expand and develop my artistic eye as well as share my perspective with others. My life has given me the inspiration to paint and I couldn't be more happy to have found this passion.
This painting captures the beauty of my Nana’s barn. After completing this painting, I realized that this one painting could not do it justice, so I began producing more art pieces to share just how lovely my Nana’s home is and how much I fall in love with the place every time I see it.
When I look at this painting, I remember watching my little brother run around the gardens, catching frogs and the caution I had to take every time I decided to walk through the buzzing gardens. I remember my Nana’s beaming smile as we’d pull into her gravel driveway and the heartwarming excitement she expressed as she approached us with outstretched arms. I can see the picnic bench and the days we would spend in the yard with our feet imprinting the perfectly trimmed grass. I remember fishing in the pond just around the corner and using random snacks in the fridge as bait. I can recall walking along the highway in flip-flops and my swimsuit, anxious to reach the beach so I could go swimming.
This painting contains innumerable memories, and I treasure them dearly.
