Realizing my need for a Savior, I was led to the Lord by my father when I was four years old. Using the Scriptures, primarily the “Roman’s Road” and Ephesians 2:8-9, my father explained that I was not good enough on my own and that the only way to receive salvation was to put my faith in the saving work of Christ on the cross. I followed the Spirit’s leading and accepted the finished work of Christ. Following my salvation experience, I was baptized at my home church during a New Year’s Eve Service.
I was fortunate to be reared in a Christian home and to attend a Christian school and sound Church. Thus, I had many opportunities to grow as I remained tender toward spiritual things. In addition to my parents, I was often exposed to numerous Godly teachers, coaches, pastors, and friends, for which I am grateful.
Realizing the call of God on my life early in my college career, I pursued my desire to be a Christian school teacher. Because my mother was an elementary teacher at a Christian school, I thought I would follow in her path. However, during my sophomore year I realized that my burden for teens was leading me into secondary education. I followed the Lord’s leading and changed my major to Secondary Education, with a concentration in mathematics. I have never regretted this decision, as I have been able to develop lasting relationships with the students I have been privileged to teach.
I thoroughly enjoy and value training young people to make good choices and to be good influences on the people around them. In addition to the subjects I teach, I encourage young people to grow in their walks with the Lord. I love to see young people make decisions in following the Lord and doing what He commands us to do. I also enjoy seeing students come to love mathematics and succeed in the professions to which God has called them, whether in secular or ministry positions.
Throughout my academic life, I attended a Christian school, and, as such, I have seen the benefits. I strongly believe that it is important for young people to have a good Christian education so that they can not only excel academically, but also grow in Him and learn the truth about the Bible. The training that students receive at a Christian school should enable them to make right choices for themselves as they grow older.
