Abstract
This Lightning presentation explores the practical insights gained from collaborative teaching teams at the University of Tasmania and Shanghai Ocean University as they undertake a journey to redefine assessment practices. The focus is on ensuring learner-focused experiences while maintaining individual assurance of learning in an environment where students engage with two distinct educational systems.
Teamwork is at the forefront of innovation in education, and this is evident through the forging of strong alliances among educators from both universities. These collaborations have not only reshaped teaching practices over the last 21 years of the partnership but have also laid the foundation for an inclusive and diverse learning environment. Our presentation highlights three key areas:
The collaborative dynamics among educators from diverse academic backgrounds and across international borders. We investigate the strategies employed to transform assessment practices and harmonise the learning experience.
The reimagining of assessments to prioritise learner-centeredness. The teaching team has been exploring how assessments are placed to actively engage students, encourage their participation, and promote deeper comprehension of course content.
The challenges and achievements in implementing learner-focused assessments within two distinct educational environments. We address the nuances of bridging cultural divides and adapting assessment strategies to ensure consistent commitment to individual assurance of learning.
The teaching teams have a commitment to learner-focused assessment practices: reflecting the dedication to educational excellence across international boundaries. This underscores the significance of maintaining core principles of assurance of learning while embracing innovative assessment methods. Together, educators from the University of Tasmania and Shanghai Ocean University are pioneering a path toward more engaging, inclusive, and globally relevant assessments.
