From Curiosity to Classroom Practice: Using Microsoft Copilot and Generative AI Responsibly in Teaching and Assessment
Recording - From Curiosity to Classroom Practice
Slides - From Curiosity to Classroom Practice
Presenter(s): Dr. Navid Nazhand | Professor/Program Coordinator | School of Management & Human Resources
The session is a practical, faculty focused workshop designed to move beyond tool demonstrations and toward thoughtful, real world application. The goal is to help faculty understand where tools like Microsoft Copilot can meaningfully support teaching, learning design, and feedback, while also addressing boundaries, academic integrity, and responsible use.
Create AI roleplays for your students the easy way!
Slides - Create AI roleplays for your students the easy way!
Presenters: Linda Facchini | Professor of Faculty Development | The Teaching & Learning Centre
Roleplays are powerful experiential learning opportunities that can help students apply knowledge and develop communication skills in a memorable and engaging way. AI agents and prompt libraries now make it easy for faculty to craft custom online roleplay scenarios tailor-made for their lessons.
In this hands-on workshop, you will explore firsthand the power of AI roleplay simulations. Together, we will use Copilot Studio’s AI agent creator and prompt templates to build and share a simple AI roleplay agent. You’ll have an opportunity to critically evaluate the finished product and discuss how we can use this emerging technology purposefully and responsibly.
This is Your Brain on A.I.
Slides - This is Your Brain on A.I.
Presenters: Todd Malarczuk | Professor | The Teaching & Learning Centre
Have you ever wondered what happens to your brain while you use GenAI to either do work for you or to help you learn about something? There are generally two camps to this question: those that think the brain is stagnant and atrophying, versus those who think that thinking and brain use is enhanced while using AI. Come find out for yourself!
*A laptop computer with access to Seneca Apps is needed
AI-Powered Teaching with Mentimeter: Smarter ways to build impactful learning activities
Slides - AI-Powered Teaching with Mentimeter
Presenters: Silvia Yancheva | Faculty Development and Student Engagement, Mentimeter
In this session, we’ll explore how Mentimeter’s AI can help Seneca faculty quickly create engaging learning activities and gain insights from student responses.
You’ll see how to use the AI Creator to build questions, quizzes, and reflections in seconds, and how to apply Bloom’s Taxonomy to make questions more meaningful and challenging.
We’ll also share quick tips for using AI to analyze responses and improve your teaching. The session wraps up with key takeaways, resources, and a Q&A.
Exploring XR Learning at Seneca
Slides - Exploring XR Learning at Seneca
Presenters: Cedar Leithead, Michael Lew | The Teaching & Learning Centre
Join us in Seneca's XR Lab for an interactive overview of some of Seneca's most engaging virtual learning tools! Learn more about the design and development process for interactive simulations, augmented reality experiences, and cutting edge virtual reality learning environments.
AI Lab: Assessments That Talk
Recording - AI Lab: Assessments That Talk
Slides - AI Lab: Assessments That Talk
Presenters: Kent Peel, Panos Panagiotakopoulos | AI Thoughtleaders
In this AI Lab workshop, faculty will learn a repeatable workflow for creating “assessments that talk”: voice-based simulation assessments. We’ll then show how to use Seneca Copilot Agents to accelerate feedback by comparing a student transcript against the assessment's rubric. The session includes implementation logistics (two-device recording workflow) and policy-conscious guardrails (fictional scenarios, no sensitive data).
*Prerequisite knowledge of AI literacy and Microsoft Teams. Laptop is required.
Elevate Your Assessments: Peer Feedback, AI Rubrics & Micro‑Checks
Recording - Elevate Your Assessments
Slides - Elevate Your Assessments
Presenters: Jamie Arfin | Senior Instructional Designer | The Teaching & Learning Centre
Formative assessment is a powerful way to make learning visible for students and instructors alike. In this hands‑on workshop, you’ll explore three Blackboard Ultra tools that can help you strengthen feedback loops and better understand student progress: Peer Feedback, AI‑generated Rubrics, and Knowledge Checks.
Through guided demonstrations and practical examples, you’ll learn how each tool supports timely feedback, transparency, and deeper learner engagement. Participants will leave with a simple plan for incorporating one or more of these tools to enhance assessment practices in their own courses.
A Curriculum Integration Showcase: Tools and Resources for Faculty to Advance Student Learning in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI), Decolonization and Sustainability
Recording - A Curriculum Integration Showcase
Slides - A Curriculum Integration Showcase
Presenters:
Lara McInnis | Professor | The Teaching & Learning Centre
Tom Bartsiokas | Professor | School of English and Liberal Studies, Faculty of Arts
Michael Myers | Digital Literacies Librarian | The Teaching & Learning Centre
We are excited to showcase a series of student modules and videos developed out of Seneca’s Curriculum Integration initiative. Intended for self-directed learning and in-class practice, these interactive tools help Seneca students use AI responsibly and build skills to support equitable, inclusive and sustainable workplaces.
Participants will hear about the collaboration between the Teaching & Learning Centre and the School of English and Liberal Studies (SELS), whose subject-matter expertise and open-access resources (OERs) inspired this project. They will also have a chance to explore some of the modules and discuss how to integrate them into their course.
Participants will also learn about Seneca Libraries’ ever-expanding GenAI supports, including an exciting new short video series and new AI features in Library tools and resources.
