In Dialogue with the Machine 

Located in front of K2100 on Teaching and Learning Day, this installation will bring together a crowd-sourced collection of images created through a shared act of imagination. Faculty-submitted prompts provide the starting point, and artificial intelligence responds, translating human language into visual form. What emerges is the interplay between human and machine, a collaborative process where meaning begins with human curiosity and is shaped through algorithmic interpretation. 

The works invite reflection on authorship, creativity, and agency in an era of generative technologies, as well as on how creative practices are evolving alongside what continues to endure. While AI can generate images, it does not replace the insight, emotion, and lived experience that human artists bring to artmaking. Human creativity, grounded in culture and context, remains essential to meaningful artistic expression. 

This installation also invites the onlooker to think critically.  

• How does knowing the images were generated by "the machine” shape your experience of them as art?  

• What do these images teach us about “the machine” interpretation of human existence? 

• In what ways do these images complicate, challenge, or contribute to discussions surrounding authorship and ownership?

By welcoming many voices into the process, this installation celebrates collective curiosity and exploration. It offers a space to consider how emerging technologies can open new creative possibilities while also questioning their impact, and to affirm the enduring human impulse to imagine, create, and make meaning.
