The Student Alliance for Flourishing (SAFF) seeks to improve flourishing on individual, community, and global levels by focusing on the following question: “What can I do to make this world a better place?” With this question as the central focus, SAFF advisors guide students through a series of activities intended to promote and improve flourishing at all three levels.
The Student Alliance for Flourishing at Notre Dame of Maryland University was established in the fall of 2021 to promote individual and community flourishing on NDMU's campus.
We invite students to share their experiences related to their physical, social/ emotional, and spiritual development. Our students connect with peers and experts at other universities around the world, sharing resources that they have found beneficial to their growth in and outside of academic contexts. We focus on the practical applications and tools to support university students' flourishing.
The alliance is founded upon the flourishing domains outlined by VanderWeele (2017). These domains include: 1) Physical and Mental Health; 2) Character and Virtue; 3) Meaning and Purpose; 4) Close Social Relations; 5) Happiness and Life Satisfaction, and 6) Financial and Material Stability.
Taken together, it is our hope that students at NDMU find a supportive community that enables them to flourish within their personal and professional lives.
