FOOD CHAIN

A food chain is a process in which one organism eats other organism.

Producers are autotrophs (they make their own food).

Primary consumers are herbivores.

Secondary and tertiary consumers are carnivores or omnivores.

A FOOD WEB is a lot of food chains that are connected.

We can find:

-         Scavengers that eat dead plants/animals. Ex. Vultures (buitres).  

-         Parasites survive by causing harm on other living thing (that is the host). Ex. Flea (pulga) or mosquito.

-         Preys are eaten by predators. Ex. Gazelles or monkeys.

-         Predators are animals that hunt, kill and eat other organisms. Ex. Lions or crocodiles.

EXTINCTION

Extinction is when a species disappear. They can disappear for habitat destruction.  

CAUSES:

-        Global warming. Humans produce a lot of greenhouse gases:

o  The Artic snow and ice melt.

o   The temperature of the ocean rises.

-        Deforestation is cutting down a lot of trees = habitat destruction.

-         Air and water pollution.

-         Less space for living things = very big cities.

-         Overfishing and overhunting. People capture big amounts of living things.

ENDANGERED SPECIES

Endanger species are the species at risk of extinction.

To protect them and the habitat -> nature reserves and natural parks.

In these areas fishing and hunting are NOT permitted.

Some examples of endangered species:

Iberian wolf

Brown bear

Imperial eagle

Ibex (goat)
