Dedicated to my lovely wife and children.
As a person with programming histories, I recently introduced Scratch JR, Scratch and Code Combat to my 8-year-old daughter.
The topic slowly drifted to how the World is being slowly destroyed - Pollution of air and noise, oceans and plastics, trash and a waste of everything, energy and climate. We somewhat decided it occurred due to the adult's generation insatiable wants of materials and money.
Teaching organizations publicise that coding is good for the future, which many people do not contest. But many continued to laud Gates, Jobs, Musk, Zuckerberg, Ma and even Tan (Grab) into their propaganda as wealthy figures to advocate their own children into a better edge through programming.
{ Only a few public figures are “genuine engineers.” All of them had to transform into business leaders. }
Coding should be learnt to instill problem-solving (and to be shared in groups.) The habit of problem solving ought to be grown with children as they will eventually be forced to work on World problems created by our own generation's ignorance. The idea to code for riches will only bring us into the endless cycle of Earth's degradation.
At the end of our discussion, my heart cried as my daughter picked up her coding tablet, looked at me and said,
“It's okay daddy, I forgive you.”
Code it, love it and share it for the greater good.
