G7PEE

Trevor Griffiths

Having had a life long interest in radio spending much of my early years as a Short-Wave listener, I lived in Gibraltar where I listened to stations from around the world on an old Shortwave receiver. I still consider the 'Rock' to be the crossroads of the world for communication! The interest continued until I studied the then RAE becoming licensed as G7PEE in July of 1993. As a B licensee and at the time living in North Kent, I became fully involved in the UHF & VHF side of the hobby. I had an excellent location in JO-01-GI working all over the UK and Europe on 2 & 70 and further afield on 6 mtrs.

I moved to my current location in IO-81-VH in 1998 but didn't rebuild the station for almost a year. My interest was re-established after gaining the right to use the HF bands as 30 MHz and above was extremely quiet here in Trowbridge! The first HF station consisted of a Yaesu ft-920 and an offset dipole in an inverted V configuration. Incidentally the antenna configuration is the same today ( although the dipole itself has been replaced! ).

The current station consists of a Yaesu FTDX-10 for HF & 6 & 4 Mtrs. An Icom IC-9700, a Yaesu FT-7900 & a Yaesu FT-70D. All VHF & UHF Antennas with the exception of a Tri-band Co-linear are located in my loft and work to good effect.

My current areas of interest are UKAC Contesting for my local club the Trowbridge & District Amateur Radio Club. the HF WARC Bands inc 60 Mtrs & Digital modes namely YSF (C4FM) & FT8.

I travel regularly to Gibraltar where I obtain a reciprocal license signing ZB2/G7PEE. I also visit the Gibraltar Amateur Radio Club during my visits. My other foreign destination is Lebanon where I also visit regularly but alas no reciprocal licensing arrangement exists to enable me to sign OD xxx!

I am widowed and so radio is my lifeline ensuring I am never lonely as there is always someone interesting to talk to at anytime day or night!

I thank you in anticipation of you reading my story and wish you the very best 73, hoping to meet you on air....
