VHF National Field Day 2022
Date & time of the field day contest: 1500 UTC Saturday 2nd July 2022 until 1500 UTC Sunday 3th July 2022.
Location: Maesbury Castle is an Iron Age hill fort on the Mendip Hills, just north of Shepton Mallet. The site rises to 292 metres (958 ft) above sea level and enables a view over the surrounding valleys and hills, with views to the north, west and south.
The Club team arrived at Maesbury on the outskirts of Shepton Mallet (IO81RF) over the weekend of 2nd & 3rd July.
As in previous years VHF NFD was well supported, everyone joined in to build the station and get aerials up in the air whilst enjoying the scenery and great company of other members.
Once again Russ M0WYB and Dom M0UAS organised the catering and kept everyone well fed for the duration.
We entered the Mix and Match section and operated on all 5 bands: 50, 70, 144, 432 and 1296MHz.
With al the hard work and sterling efforts of all who attended, we scooped 2nd place in the Mix & Match Section!
Here's how we did it:
50 MHz- 3rd place in open section
70 MHz- 4th place in open section
144 MHz- 4th place in restricted section
432 MHz- 2nd place in low power section
1296 MHz-2nd place in restricted section
The VHF NFD is a team effort and the "few stations" and points all add up to our score, those few stations and points can be the difference between 1st,2nd,3rd place etc but ultimately they add up to OUR Club team score :-)........No matter your level of experience in contesting its all about getting involved and having a laugh along the way (which we do)!! We are not a contest group, its great to see everyone operating and taking part which is what counts! :-)

Lastly VHF NFD is not just for contest operators, its an event for any Club member to attend, the social side of the weekend is just as much fun as operating especially at the fantastic location.
