Entering 6th
Summer Reading Requirements:
Book 1: Nothing But The Truth, by Avi
Assignment for Book 1:
For each question, write a paragraph (5-7 sentences) explaining your answer in a Word document and submit it to Mr. Ng's email
Question 1: Explain the process of how Philip Malloy went from simply humming the National Anthem, to the point where it was him versus the school.
Question 2: In your opinion, do you think Philip was right to hum the National Anthem in school? Should he have stuck to the rules of the school? Explain why.
Question 3: When this book was written, the National Anthem was the "hot topic" issue on whether it should be kept in schools. In today's world, there are many "hot topic" issues that arise every day. We, as Christians, have a biblical view on many of these issues. Choose one topic from today's current events. Explain what is happening in your own words. Then write your response to what is happening using what God says in the Bible.
Book 2: Choose ONE book from the 3 lists below. After you have finished reading your book, look at the tab at the top titled "Response Options." Choose ONE of the assignment options from that list to complete for this book.
NOTE: Submitting work written by any type of artificial intelligence software is considered plagiarism, and will result in a 0 for the assignment.
If you are a returning student or are brand new to TCS for the fall, where possible please print out your assignments and bring them to school by the due date.
Videos and book jackets created online can be submitted to Mr. Ng at his school email:

As always, we encourage parents to remain aware of and familiar with the texts their children are reading. It would also be a great experience for parent(s) and child to read some novels together.
