Events from Thursday include a high speed chase that resulted in a crash, an out-of-county assist with a large disturbance, a non-injury collision, and a peaceful demonstration that blocked traffic downtown.
Tumwater officers chased down and apprehended a suspect who was driving a stolen vehicle late Saturday night on Littlerock Rd.
The chase began when an officer attempted to stop the vehicle on 93rd Ave just west of the Pilot truck stop. The vehicle took off towards Littlerock Rd, headed south, then hit triple digits as it made its way towards the Maytown area on Littlerock Rd.
The vehicle crashed in the 12600 block of Littlerock Rd when it ran off the road and hit a telephone pole. The suspect was briefly pinned in his car before being extricated. Since he is not currently listed in any jail roster, we assume he has been taken to the hospital first instead.
Thurston County deputies, along with personnel from Grays Harbor and Kitsap counties, and the State Patrol, were dispatched to assist Shelton Police and Mason County Sheriff deputies with a large scale disturbance at Bob's Tavern in Shelton, according to scanner traffic.
According to witness statements, a male was refused service by the bartender and refused to leave, causing law enforcement to be summoned. When they arrived, they were met with hostility and began mutliple people began fighting with the officers. Multiple people ended up being arrested.
The large law-enforcement response was likely meant to overwhelm any hostility with responding officers. We do not believe anyone was injured.
A group of approximately 150 peaceful protesters blocked traffic on State Avenue and Capitol Way Saturday evening as they marched from Olympia City Hall to the Washington State Capitol building, as part of nationwide protests sparked by the murder of George Floyd by a Minneapolis, MN police officer.
Additional protests are planned for this week, with current events scheduled for Tuesday and Friday. As always, we'll be ready to show you what happens just in case the protests turn south, as has happened in Olympia before. We have reason to believe the event on Friday will not be peaceful, so keep an eye on our page for coverage that afternoon.
Nobody was injured in a 3-car crash on Yelm Highway in Lacey Saturday afternoon. All 3 cars ended up on the sidewalk, with one that had smashed in to a retaining wall. At least two of the vehicles needed to be removed by tow trucks. It is unclear what caused the collision, but it was raining at the time.
Events from Thursday include two DUI collisions, a police chase, and a woman who was unfortunately hit by her own car and injured. Check it out below.
Washington State Patrol attempted to stop a white van on I-5 for going 85 mph in a posted 60 mph zone. The vehicle did not stop and State began pursuing the vehicle. It exited onto Sleater Kinney Rd, blowing through stop signs and red lights and speeding as it made its way through Lacey. State either lost the vehicle or terminated their pursuit due to the high speed through an urban area.
The vehicle ended up on Yelm Highway, where TCSO deputies re-initiated the pursuit with the vehicle. The vehicle was spiked by additional deputies and the pursuit ended at the end of Todtkarle Rd SE, where the driver bailed out of the car on foot.
Within minutes of the foot bail, the suspect had been detained. He has been booked into county jail on charges of eluding a police vehicle.
An elderly woman was transported Thursday morning after she stopped on the road to check on a wandering dog, according to witness statements.
Aid was dispatched to the 3700 blk of Kings Way SE in Olympia at around 11:00 am. The woman had stopped in the road, and forgot to put her car in park, and she was hit by her own car at about 5 mph and knocked to the ground.
She was transported to the hospital for a possible head injury, witnesses said. We have no updates on her condition at this time.
Thurston County deputies placed a man under arrest for driving under the influence Thursday after he ran off the road, rolled his car, and ended up on the other side of the road.
Aid was also dispatched to the collision on Mud Bay Rd just west of Delphi, but the patient refused transport to the hospital against medical advice, according to scanner traffic.
According to witnesses, the car was traveling eastbound when it ran off the road, flipped over, went skidding across the road upside down, and came to rest on the other side of the road right-side-up.
Tumwater Police were dispatched to Trosper Rd SW and Trosper Lake Rd SW late Thursday for a reported collision with an associated disturbance, according to scanner reports.
When officers arrived on scene, they advised two male suspects had taken off running on foot, and that the collision may have been caused by someone who was attempting to steal a car. Details are unclear at this time.
A 47-year old male was arrested and booked into Nisqually Jail on DUI, hit and run, and driving while suspended charges.
Events from Wednesday include a large protest/riot downtown, a man crashing a stolen car and taking off, a K9 track on a burglary, and an early morning structure fire that destroyed an abandoned house. Check it out below:
Olympia Police were notified just after 8:00 pm Wednesday that there was a group of demonstrators, mostly dressed in all black with black face masks, blocking 4th Ave E near the Artesian Well. Many of the protesters carried signs stating derogatory things about police officers. This protest was in response to an incident in Minneapolis, MN, that has been covered extensively by local and national news agencies.
The group of about 20 people tore down a portable chain link fence that was being used to keep people out of Artesian Commons Park, which was closed several years ago after drug and transient activity was a constant at the location. The protesters then took the fence and set it up to block 4th Ave at Adams St SE.
Not more than five minutes later, a white Mitsubishi sedan blew through the chain link fence at approximately 35 mph. The protesters marched on the street for about 10-15 minutes before they eventually disbanded after being surrounded by police officers.

A man was arrested by Olympia Police for multiple charges, including possession of a stolen vehicle and hit and run with injury, after he crashed a stolen car into multiple vehicles in the 3200 block of Pacific Ave SE and then fled into the woods behind the Chevron station, into an area known as the Jungle homeless encampment.
Officers were able to track the man down later that night. It appeared that he had struck up to three other vehicles at the intersection of Pacific Ave and I-5, and one of the vehicles involved briefly caught fire, according to scanner reports.
One person was evaluated at the scene for injuries. The man was arrested nearby and was booked into Thurston County Jail on his charges. The crashed vehicle was stolen out of Bellevue.
A home in the 4000 block of San Mar Drive in Olympia was destroyed on Wednesday when it caught fire around 4:45 am.
Fire units were originally dispatched to black smoke coming from an unknown source behind Jack in the Box on the corner of Sleater-Kinney Rd and Martin Way. Fire arrived on scene and advised they had a working structure fire and it was nearly fully-engulfed.
A large thermal column of black smoke could be seen for several miles around the area. Crews on scene struck a second-alarm which brought increased levels of mutual aid, most of which was released shortly after arrival.
Nearly all area fire districts assisted Olympia with this fire. Sleater Kinney Rd was closed north of Martin Way for several hours into the morning.
Olympia Police were dispatched shortly before 3:00 am to a burglary that had just occurred in the 300 block of 27th Ave SE, off Capitol Blvd near the I-5 overpass.
Officers arrived and advised that there was forced entry to the front door. K-9 unit was called in to track the burglar, and followed their scent to the area around Sunset Plaza, along Capitol Blvd south of the burglary location. No burglar was located. The suspect may have left from there in a vehicle or by other means.
Tuesday brought a major motor vehicle collision that sent four people to the hospital, two people were arrested after breaking in to a marijuana grow facility, and a fire that could have been much worse if it wasn't stopped quickly.
Four people were transported to the hospital after a 3-vehicle collision at Maytown Road SW and Case Rd SW around 5:30 pm Tuesday. The collision appeared to be caused by someone running a stop sign, according to fire crews on scene.
A Thurston County deputy was witness to the collision, and immediately requested aid be dispatched over the radio. Three ambulances were eventually called to the scene to transport the four patients, according to scanner traffic. It is unclear if one ambulance transported two or if the fourth person took themselves to seek medical attention.
A Ford Escape SUV was the most severely damaged, and the other vehicles were a Miata convertible and a Jeep SUV. The Ford Escape was nearly ripped in half by the impact of the collision.
All three vehicles were removed by flatbed tow trucks and are certainly going to be totaled. None of the patients in the accident appeared to sustain life-threatening injuries.
Tumwater Police responded to a video alarm of a possible burglary at a marijuana grow building on Arab Drive at approximately 1:30 am Tuesday morning. Off-site security monitoring video was advising that there appeared to be unauthorized people on the property.
Officers arrived in the area and developed probable cause for burglary, indicating the two suspects had entered the building. It is unknown if the suspects took any items.
The two men attempted to evade officers on foot but were both eventually apprehended in the area. They have both been booked into County Jail on felony burglary charges.
Olympia Fire crews were dispatched to a commercial fire alarm activation at a State building in the 1300 block of Quince St SE around 7:15 pm on Tuesday night. Firefighters arrived and found there was smoke in the third floor and called for an upgrade to a commercial structure fire.
Further investigation revealed that the smoke was coming from an electrical breaker box. Firefighters extinguished the small fire in the breaker box and checked for extension to the surrounding walls. None was found and the building was turned over to maintenance personnel.
Olympia Police officers recovered a stolen red Kia Soul hatchback around 10:30 Tuesday evening. The vehicle was reported stolen in Tacoma and was occupied by two people.
Around 7:30 pm, a citizen reported a theft of a package off a porch in the 1500 block of Marion Street NE and gave the plate and description of this stolen vehicle as the suspect in that crime, according to scanner reports. The vehicle was spotted a little later at the Shell on the corner of State and East Bay.
An officer later noticed the car parked at the corner of Martin and Ensign occupied by two people, and detained both of them. The person in possession of the stolen car is being booked into county jail on that felony charge. The car is expected to be released back to the registered owner.
Olympia Police responded late on Tuesday night to a robbery that occurred at Ralph's Thriftway on 4th Ave E just before midnight.
Witnesses stated that one male suspect had assaulted the clerk while a female suspect stole items from the store. The two suspects entered a red SUV, possibly a 4-runner or Explorer, and left heading westbound on State Ave. The witnesses followed the vehicle to the area of the roundabouts on 4th Ave W where they saw it head up the hill to the west side and were unable to keep following.
The employee(s) at the store were not injured. Police are investigating the robbery and will be following up on any information. If you have information call dispatch at (360) 704-2740.
Memorial Day Monday brought a structure fire, a van hitting a water line on private property, a foot chase and suspect search which ended after a neighbor called in a suspicious person, and a power pole fire that caused a power outage in SE Lacey.
Olympia Police, Fire, and Public Works responded to Panera Bread on the corner of Capital Mall Drive and Black Lake Blvd on Monday afternoon for reports that a vehicle had hit a water line after going over the curb in the restaurant's drive-thru and was high-centered.
The responding officer summoned the Fire Department and the City's Public Works to the scene because the water line that was hit was gushing water. Nobody was injured and firefighters were able to turn off the water within about 30 minutes. A tow truck was called to the scene to remove the high-centered vehicle.
The restaurant was closed the remainder of the day due to the water outage. The restaurant's General Manager said they expected to be back open tomorrow after repairs were complete.
Olympia Fire and mutual aid were dispatched to a report of a commercial structure fire early Sunday afternoon at the Evergreen Vista Apartments, located at 1209 Fern St SW. The caller reported that their oven was on fire and it was spreading to the surrounding cabinets and wall.
Firefighters arrived and had the fire extinguished within about 10 minutes. They checked for extension to the surrounding walls and ventilated the third-floor apartment. According to friends of the resident, the oven was on self-cleaning mode when it caught fire. This is a particularly dangerous situation because the oven cannot be opened to use an extinguisher.
The American Red Cross was called in to assist the family, who are now likely to be displaced from their home due to the fire damage.
Lacey Fire and PSE crews responded Monday morning to a report of a power pole on fire near Yelm Hwy SE and Balustrade Blvd SE in southeast Lacey. The impact of the fire caused the pole to snap in half which knocked out power to approximately 67 residents in the area. Power was restored to all customers in the area by 7:30 pm.
Tumwater Police responded to a theft call at Home Depot on Kingswood Drive Monday evening. While officers were taking the report, one of the theft suspects took off running eastbound towards I-5. He was able to get across the freeway, where he encountered a concrete wall. He was forced to run north along I-5 until the concrete wall became a chain-link fence, where he cut through it and ran across Linderson Way into the surrounding neighborhoods.
Officers called off the search as the only crime they had on him was misdeamenor theft. However, around an hour after the original chase, a neighbor reported that a man had crawled out of the bushes and was acting suspicious in the area of 7th Ave and Dennis St, about two blocks from where this suspect was last seen.
Officers attempted to make contact with the suspect and he took off running again towards Capitol Blvd. A Thurston County Sergeant in the area saw the suspect run down a driveway near Dennis St and Dennis Place. The Sergeant and a deputy were able to get the suspect into custody.
The man was booked into Nisqually Jail on charges of theft and obstruction of a law enforcement officer.
Sunday of Memorial Day weekend brought several rollover collisions, a serious injury motorcycle accident, a collision caused by a distracted driver, a structure fire, and the K9 Unit tracking suspects in a late-night commercial burglary. Check it out below.
Thurston County deputies were dispatched at 6:41 pm on Sunday evening to a report of a one car rollover in the 3600 block of Sapp Rd SW, between Black Lake Belmore Rd and RW Johnson Blvd SW. According to neighbors and scanner reports, a 1986 GMC Jimmy was travelling on the road when a tire went off the road, causing the driver to lose control, hit a tree, and roll over. The vehicle came to rest upside down in the eastbound lanes of Sapp Rd.
Deputies requested aid to respond for the male driver who was a "little out of it" and just a minute later requested them to step it up as the man had passed out while speaking with the deputy. Aid crews with McLane-Black Lake Fire evaluated the subject on scene, it is unknown if the subject was transported to the hospital. The vehicle was towed away from the scene
Fire crews with McLane-Black Lake Fire District 9 and mutual aid were dispatched to a report of a residential structure fire in the 2900 block of Delphi Rd SW at 11:24 am on Sunday morning. The fire was reported by several neighbors as well as an aircraft flying above who advised dispatch (directly on Fire Channel 3) that the structure was fully involved.
Fire crews arrived on scene and discovered that this was not actually a residence on fire, but a barn, with some exposure to heavy machinery that was parked on the side of it. According to the Thurston County Assessor website, the 3,000+ square foot barn was built in 1976.
Fire crews had the barn fire extinguished quickly and mutual aid crews were released. The barn is a total loss but it is not believed any animals were inside at the time of the fire. It is unknown what caused the fire.
Crews from Griffin Fire District 13, Tumwater Fire Department, East Olympia Fire District 6, Olympia Fire Department, Lacey Fire District 3, and West Thurston Regional Fire District 1 were dispatched to assist. Most of the mutual aid was released on or before their arrival.
Olympia Police were dispatched to a report of a possible burglary in the 900 block of Poplar St SE at 11:58 pm Sunday night. Police incident reports list the property as "Frankie's Pool Hall". Witnesses called 911 and reported two suspects, one tall, thin white male, and one short, thin Asian male, breaking glass and entering the building. Officers arrived on scene and confirmed that this was a burglary.
Olympia Police K-9 Kaiser was deployed by his partner, Officer Smith, and they began tracking the scent of the suspects eastbound on the Woodland Trail towards Sleater-Kinney Road. They lost the scent in the 1200 block of Sleater Kinney Rd SE. K-9 Kaiser attempted to reaquire the scent, but was unsuccessful in further tracking. It is possible that the suspects entered a vehicle at this location. The suspects have not been apprehended at this time.
Thurston County deputies and McLane Fire aid crews were dispatched to the 6400 block of Nels Rd SW around 1:00 pm Sunday. 911 callers reported that a vehicle was upside down in the brush on the side of the road. Upon arrival, Fire crews found the driver had extricated himself from his Ford Ranger.
According to family members and neighbors who commented on our original Facebook post of the event, the man had a seizure while driving, was evaluated by aid crews, and released on scene to recover at home. The truck, however, is totaled, and was removed by a tow truck.
A 57-year-old woman was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle after she crashed her motorcycle on Bucoda Hwy just south of Tenino on Sunday afternoon.
According to the scanner reports, the woman was unconscious when aid arrived on scene.. A helicopter from Airlift Northwest was launched from Olympia Airport to land at Tenino Middle School, where she was picked up and flown to Harborview, a level-one trauma center.
As of Monday morning, she was still listed as in critical condition. No other vehicles were involved in the collision. The collision is being investigated by the Washington State Patrol. Bucoda Highway, also known as SR 507, was closed for several hours yesterday for their investigation.
TCSO and Southeast Thurston Fire were dispatched to a 3-vehicle collision in the 13000 block of Bald Hill Rd SE around 4:30 pm Sunday. One 19-year old female was reported to be complaining of pain in her knees, back, and head after the crash, and was transported to St. Peter's Hospital.
Multiple witnesses, and even the injured driver herself, said in our comment section that the collision was caused by a younger male who was looking at his phone and speeding, and crashed into the back of two cars who were stopped while attempting to make a left turn.
