About Us
The Claremont Colleges Services Library Staff Federation is a proposed union of library workers at The Claremont Colleges Library seeking recognition by The Claremont Colleges Services Inc. (TCCS) for the purposes of collective bargaining and contract negotiation.
We have chosen to affiliate with the California Federation of Teachers (CFT). The CFT is the California affiliate of the American Federation of Teachers, and represents more than 120,000 educational employees working at every level of public and private education in the state.
Our proposed bargaining unit would include all non-supervisory library staff (librarians and other permanent library staff) employed by TCCS.
Why Library Staff and Librarians are unionizing
We are organizing for the same reasons any group of workers chooses to form a collective to negotiate with their employers:
Fair pay
Transparent hiring/firing/promotion practices
A voice in the conditions of our workplace
Our key concerns center on our rights in an educational environment where issues of academic freedom and equitable employment can typically be complex – even more complex in an arrangement such as the Claremont consortium of colleges.
Our strength is in our unity.
