Objectives
To encourage excellence in teaching Labanotation at the Elementary level and to promote the integration of Labanotation across the curriculum.
Description
This course provides an opportunity for students to:
demonstrate sound teaching practices within a guided setting;
explore methods of teaching Elementary Labanotation;
integrate Labanotation in various disciplines for different age group (for example, technology, choreography, music, acting, history, repertory, science, physical therapy, creative dance class, etc.);
ensure accurate theoretical knowledge of Labanotation;
be aware of teaching strengths and weaknesses, and adapt for improvements;
gain an insight into teaching style;
become familiar with resources for teaching Labanotation, including computer applications for Labanotation and dance documentation.
Evaluation
At the conclusion of the course, the DNB Elementary Labanotation Teacher Certification is awarded to those who have demonstrated teaching excellence, knowledge of notation, and proficiency in presenting the material.
The student is evaluated based on ability to:
clearly present material;
organize lessons with a logical progression and flow;
establish goals and measurements of attainment;
apply notation in a broader context.
