Program Overview:
The Transportation Career Academy Program (TCAP) began as a “school within a school” in cooperation with the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) and the Norwalk- La Mirada Unified School District. For the past 25 years, TCAP has since grown to include several other school districts in Los Angeles County. TCAP provides summer internship opportunities to students who are currently a member of the graduating classes of 2022 and 2023. Metro targets students who are transit dependent, reside in Los Angeles County, and live or attend a school near a Metro rail station (including rail expansion projects).
TCAP offers students an opportunity to learn about careers in transportation and participate in real-world projects at one of the nation’s largest public transportation agencies. The program also provides a professional mentorship relationship for interns and their mentors and an innovative approach to promote public transportation, anti-graffiti, and safety education programs.
The session runs for six weeks. TCAP participants will meet virtually starting Friday, June 24, 2022 and will present their final Project Team presentations on Friday, August 5, 2022. These sessions will be explained in further detail at the first in-service training session, which will be on Friday, June 24, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.
Program Features:
· Mandatory In-Service Trainings on Friday mornings including a new employee orientation on Metro and TCAP policies, procedures, and practices
