DEIB
As a woman in math, I know how isolating and even hostile the world of math can sometimes feel. I believe that we can do better as a community to support each other and celebrate difference, and I actively strive to promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) in any mathematical space I inhabit.
DEIB Action Plan Committee
In the summer of 2020, I served on a committee formed in the wake of nationwide protests following the murder of George Floyd which was tasked with creating a plan to improve diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in the Yale math department. Direct outcomes of this committee include:
Formation of a standing climate committee dedicated to fostering a sense of belonging among all members of the department
Creation of a yearly climate survey to identify areas for improvement and track progress
New DEIB programming including a lecture series and reading group
Recommendations for improved hiring and advancement practices
Formation of a Graduate Student Advisory Committee
Improvements to undergraduate curriculum and advising
Creation of an anonymous "comment box" to solicit feedback from members of the department
Drafting of a departmental statement on DEIB
Climate Committee
Since its formation, I have served for several semesters on Yale's climate committee, which has included organizing DEIB programming, hosting fun intra-departmental events, and helping plan and conduct the departmental climate survey
