My grandmother, Terri Cranmer, bred and showed Dobermans, German Shepherds, and Shih Tzus under the kennel name Tarahaus from the mid 1960s into the early 2000s. Her German Shepherds were featured in various books, and some were even donated to the local police department to serve on their K9 unit. They also did conformation and herding.
My mother, Patti Cranmer, bred and showed Parson (Jack) Russell Terriers as well as Miniature Aussies (now known as Miniature American Shepherds) for over 20 years. She originally created the kennel name Fox Shadow. Her dogs were sent all over the world to various countries. They excelled in agility, conformation, earth dog, and racing.
Growing up, I remember playing with puppies and showing Jack Russell Terriers as a Junior handler. As I continued to grow up, I began playing competitive softball. Our weekends were soon spent at tournaments rather than dog shows, and we gradually slowed down on our dog activities.
I eventually went on to play softball in college. While there, I earned a B.A. in Neuroscience. All that time, I never forgot my love for Miniature American Shepherds. Once I graduated, I knew it was time to return to dog breeding and showing.
Today, I live on a 28-acre farm in North Carolina filled with Texas Longhorns, goats, a pig, and plenty of chickens. Being on the farm, my dogs are exposed to plenty of different critters, and they learn to respect them.
As a 3rd generation dog breeder, the goal of my program is to produce dogs that are excellent in the show ring, at performance activities, and on the farm. I am striving to create a dog that can win in every endeavor but can also come home and sleep on the couch with the family.
I hold myself and my dogs to a high standard as I strive to achieve this goal. All dogs undergo OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals) examinations and genetic clearances before breeding. All puppies undergo careful Early Neurological Stimulation and are properly socialized before heading to their new home.
