Born into a middle-class family in Bangladesh, Tanvir developed an early fascination with technology—especially computer hardware, processors, and the engineering behind modern computing systems. That curiosity led him to pursue Electrical Engineering and build a career that bridges large-scale infrastructure and advanced device research.
After graduation, he joined Smart Technologies (BD) Ltd.- operating within the sphere of Hewlett Packard Enterprise, where he built strong expertise in enterprise IT infrastructure, including servers, storage, and virtualization. He worked on deploying mission-critical systems and troubleshooting complex issues across some of the largest data centers in Bangladesh, supporting customers such as as Banglalink, Grameenphone, Robi Axiata Limited, and multiple pharmaceutical organizations.
Although he found the work rewarding, his long-term goal remained semiconductor devices and chip-level technology. He applied to several U.S. Ph.D. programs and received admission from every university he applied to—including Duke University, where he was awarded a five-year doctoral fellowship. Later, he also had an opportunity to pursue graduate study at Purdue University. Ultimately, he chose the University of Central Florida for his Ph.D., where his research aligns closely with his interests in micro/nano-fabrication and next-generation electronics and RF systems.
Tanvir’s doctoral research focuses on micro- and nanofabrication, spanning the design, fabrication, and experimental characterization of neuromorphic and advanced microsystems. His work includes memcapacitor-based devices leveraging 2D materials, ultra-stable resonators and oscillators, and high-performance delay-line platforms using a range of piezoelectric materials such as AlN, ScAlN, LiNbO₃, LiTaO₃, and PMN-PT. He has taken leadership roles in fabrication and performance analysis across multiple projects supported by Texas Instruments and the U.S. Department of Defense (Army Research Laboratory).
In parallel, Tanvir broadened his industry experience as a Hardware Engineering Intern at Microsoft (Redmond, WA), where he worked on large-scale server hardware reliability. He engineered a telemetry-driven dashboard to monitor hardware health signals and analyze end-to-end SoC fault patterns, established scalable pathways for validating SoC-based hardware through comprehensive monitoring and screening, and analyzed million-server-scale fleet telemetry using KQL. He also executed 1,000+ synthetic and customer stress tests and helped integrate fault-code–driven policies into the centralized codebase to strengthen SoC reliability. Following the internship, he received a return intern offer from Microsoft.
