Modern Studies students & teachers from James Gillespie's High School in Edinburgh incorporated a Schools Tour hosted by Jason of Tanners Tours London, as part of their visits arranged to the Houses of Parliament and the Supreme Court.
Created by Jason Tanner
Jason's routes around the city make it much easier to visualise and think about how the Westminster Parliament operates in the context of the UK; to see where the Prime Minister lives and to explore Britain's role in the development of modern democracy throughout the world. His tours around Westminster & Whitehall bring the stories linking the palaces of Royalty and Parliament together and are ideal for considering the UK's constitutional monarchy and the rise of law in protecting ordinary citizens. Jason is also an expert on Free Speech and Freedom of Expression and the roles of the established media, social media and media ownership,
Magna Carta, the suffragette movement, the English Civil War, the Industrial Revolution and the rise and fall of Empire are all areas that Jason can refer to
Jason appeals to students of all ages whether 8 or 88.
"Tours or presentation lectures should be fun, eye opening, interactive, revealing, entertaining and educational" according to Jason. "If they're fun then the learning bit is so much easier."

Teachers and lectures ultimately remain in control of whether a tour needs to be abandoned due to bad weather or other extenuating circumstances. Such cancellations have not been necessary so far but child safety, comfort and welfare remains paramount. Tours can be conducted in wet weather but you need to consider what provision such as clothing is needed for your students in such circumstances.
If you cancel 24 or more hours before the start time of a tour then we will be happy to attempt to reschedule within a 10 week period or give a full refund minus £5 as a token towards costs. If you cancel within the 24 hour period before the start time of a tour or up to halfway through a scheduled tour then we can work to try and reschedule (once) or can issue a refund once minus £20 towards costs or £40 if cancelled during the first half.
Suggested indoor or sheltered contingencies (To help with your planning)
Alternatively you might like to book free externally guided school group access to the National Gallery in Trafalgar Square for the same time as your walking tour , just incase the weather turns unexpectedly bad. Various paintings lend themselves to illustrating relevant places, people or events and can be used as a backdrop for interactive discussions or age appropriate activities. To bring an externally led tour of up to 30 into the National Gallery, the school must book through the official National Gallery Self-Guided Groups Booking Portal Other suggestions for your risk planning - Impromptu covered shelter for students may be feasible on the concourse of Charing Cross Station, the cafe in St James' Park and in the subway leading into the Green Park from Green Park Underground Station or the subways at Westminster Station towards the end of the tour route. There is walkway cover at the side of the Ritz Hotel
If the tour guide needs to cease the continuation of a tour due to ill-health, bad weather or other unusual circumstances then one free reschedule will be offered as an option or a pro-rata refund. No refunds or reschedules after that. Tanners Tours will do its best to support teaching staff if a decision is made to divert children to a nearby sheltered establishment along the tour route during sudden, unexpected bad weather, though the Mall in front of the palace has few immediate indoor options to shelter, only trees.
