Welcome!
Terms of reference: Tanners Tours / Tanners Tours London is an enterprise created and operated by Jason Tanner, who has long-been a registered sole trader with HMRC. Any mentions of Tanners Tours / Tanners Tours London below relate to Jason or his authorised representatives.
Payment for the walking tour or accommodation provided by Jason must be received in full before the start of any tour. Receipt of payment secures the services of Jason or a colleague for your walking tour or accommodation booking and secures your booking in favour of any other interest received. Payments are accepted by card or electronic cash transfer from the UK or overseas. Payment can be taken in cash on the day by special pre-agreement.
Electronic money transfers
Please leave sufficient time for Jason / Tanners Tours to receive your payment if you are organising money transfers from your bank or other agency. Transfers can take several working business days from overseas but are usually instant or up to 2 hours from retail banks or through a post office within the UK. Tour customers are advised they are liable for any transaction charges incurred either way (including refunds) or for balance deficits caused by international exchange rate fluctuations. Payments sent by you from outside the UK are less likely to attract any additional fees for Tanners Tours if paid to the quoted bank account in UK pounds / £ Sterling by your own bank or agency.
Full refunds will be given if Jason or his designated colleagues are unable to initiate a tour or accommodation booking. Discretionary pro-rata refunds will be considered if Jason or colleagues feel it is necessary to significantly shorten a booking (by at least a minimum of 30 minutes) , due to extenuating circumstances such as illness, by way as an example.
In the unlikely event that Jason or another named representative becomes unavailable for a booking then it might be possible to arrange another host as the preferred solution before needing to declare a full cancellation that leads to a full refund.
Refunds may not be possible for any external attractions, services, travel, entertainments or tickets which you have asked Tanners Tours to book on your behalf and you should still proceed with these activities if possible; even if you’ve cancelled the main tour or accommodation provided by Tanners Tours. Failing that, we will endeavour to get refunds on your behalf depending on the terms of the external supplier, though this will also incur a 20% deduction on any external fees that we manage to recover for you to cover costs.
e-Gift Vouchers for tours: e-Gift Vouchers are valid for 13 months from the date of payment received by Tanners Tours for any of its services whether accommodation or tours. Recipients of e-Gifts should book & confirm dates sooner rather than later to avoid disappointment from other guests or circumstances reducing access to your preferred dates. An e-voucher will be sent by email with details of how recipients can finalise their arrangements directly with Tanners Tours. This should be forwarded on by you to the named tour guests. Gift vouchers are not transferable or refundable unless discretionary permission is granted due to extenuating circumstances and may still be subject to a 20% refund fee. No refunds are given at all if cancellation is advised within 24 hours of a tour or check-in starting.
By engaging my services you agree that Tanners Tours is not liable to refund any external costs sustained by you due to cancellation, curtailment or conduct of a tour .
Purely advisory: As with any other activity or holiday-related service participants should consider whether or not they should take out their own insurance such as holiday insurance or check existing policies to cover any significant losses caused by cancellation by either party. Similarly, even if Tanners Tours has declared full or partial cancellation of its own tours or accommodation, refunds cannot usually be given (or may be given with a reduction in value, as above) for the costs of any other third-party services, travel, entertainments or tickets you might ask to be purchased on your behalf, so you should proceed with these services as scheduled unless rebooking with a rescheduled tour or other arrangements becomes possible for both parties.
Tours occur in public areas and on public streets so by joing a tour you accept that you and others who are booked with you are ultimately responsible for your own well-being & safety during a tour or for assisting others in your care, including children. You should remain vigilant, as ever, in a public setting. For instance you should still assume full care and due diligence when crossing roads during a tour, even if I’m crossing, to ensure it's safe for you and others to follow-suit. Although the hazards are considered low-risk, they are the sort of risks encountered by many of us on a daily basis such as tripping over a faulty pavement /sidewalk slab or ruining your very best shoes during a sudden downpour of rain. You should brief your fellow participants likewise.
Please do think about individual risk scenarios before booking, even though harmful incidents are very unlikely, with zero occurrences for Jason's tours to date (more than 6 years of touring). You and your party fully agree to participate knowing of these risks and recommendations.
Emergency and Dangerous situations- 999
I will of course endeavour to give help and advice as far as my capabilities allow, during any unfortunate, dangerous or critical situations though I’m pleased to report, these have not happened on Tanners Tours to-date. If your guide is unable to help and if yourself or someone else is in immediate danger then please note that the emergency services can be called on 999 (911 or 112 used overseas usually work too but 999 is considered best iwhen calling within the UK)
Personal Property, Pick Pockets & Theft
London is a safe place to visit and statistics show that it has significantly lower rates of the most serious crimes compared to any state in the USA or equivalent sister city in Europe.
However, British police remind visitors to London to keep an eye on their valuables to prevent opportunist theft by pickpockets and others, just as you would in Paris, New York or Barcelona. Keep high value items somewhere safe and anything of value on your person tucked away securely or in front of you, where you can see it. It's best not to travel with any high-valuable items and if you do, you should consider insurance as appropriate. Tanners Tours does not pay for any losses you may have though such events are very unlikely based on services provided to-date. This advice is not unique to London but applies to most cities worldwide. Please don’t feel in danger, just exercise common-sense precautions and care both before and during your visit and activities in the UK.
This is a walking tour and is generally conducted by all participants at the sprightly pace of the average adult your tour guide is. It's meant to be fun, to promote health and stimulate the body and mind. However, adaptations can be pre-arranged happily and privately for individuals with bespoke needs, especially for private tours, so please let me know. People using wheel chairs and mobility scooters or other equipment are always very welcome though anyone with any such circumstances or requirements that might affect a standard walking tour should please let me know beforehand so I can make access or other adjustments and route changes as needed.
Tours happen in all weathers, which can only add to the drama, determination and sense of achievement amongst guests to complete the challenge if they can . There’s never been a weather-related cancellation for any tours that Jason has conducted so please be prepared for extremes of rain, wind or even sun, which have failed to end any tours so far, though deviations on request to cafes or pubs to 'hear a tale or two' undercover have been known on request. Such requests are happily considered if the group is in agreement. CHECK THE WEATHER FORECAST before you tour- THINK: Comfortable footwear; Warm or Cool Clothes; Rainwear; Scarves; Gloves; Sunhats; Sunblocker; Umbrellas; Snacks; Water bottles; Drinks;
Tour durations are approximate and for your guidance. They can be affected by many different factors, including the overall pace that participants walk at on the day or by sudden route closures or diversions, but if you do have a very tight schedule for the rest of your day then please do make us aware to help us make adaptations whenever possible.
We recommend guests use bathroom facilities before arriving at the start of a tour and certainly when available during a tour. Although the tour routes have one or two facilities along them there are stretches where they’re not immediately to hand or around the corner. In London, it’s not uncommon to pay a very small amount (eg 50 pence or £1) by tapping a bank card on a card reader as many facilities do not accept cash.
By engaging Tanners Tours you acknowledge that the unexpected and unpredictable can happen in busy cities like London and that we may have to adjust plans, even while a tour is in progress, for which compensation is not payable. We will still endeavour to make the tour as safe and enjoyable as we can.
Please note that Borough Market is not usually open on Mondays and many stalls start winding down from 3.30pm on other days.
Changing of the Guard is not daily and can be cancelled with little or no notice to anyone. It does not go ahead in wet or very hot weather. We will endeavour to take you to the best vantage points when it does coincide with tours. Although variable, the ceremony tends to occur Monday, Wednesday and Friday mid-mornings with a smaller, earlier Sunday morning parade.
Allergies / Dietary requirements - Before booking the historic (circa Victorian) British food module at Borough Market, please ensure all participants are carnivores as this particular element will not appeal so much to vegetarians or vegans. However, there are plenty of 'off-theme' vegetarian alternatives available for those wishing to explore these separately. Participants in the tour , or their guardians or carers must check for themselves regarding specific allergen concerns with the relevant stallholders when we go to purchase the food on the day.
Photos, footage or audio may be taken by me or others during a public or group tour. You should assume that such material may be used to promote Tanners Tours London or be distributed to other guests in a tour. But please make it clear if you wish to be excluded from the collection or public reproduction of any such material collected by Tanners Tours . Specific requests for privacy will be observed when requested and known about, and Jason is experienced in welcoming very high profile individuals who prefer to enjoy London as privately and discreetly as possible.
Thanks for reading and please make sure all tour guests are aware of the above as appropriate.
Wishing you a happy, enjoyable, informative and safe tour!
