Throughout my time working on this project, I found lots of information about the effects of club sports on college students. The information I found is as follows.
One of the most major aspects of club sports is the identities and community groups same sex sport teams provide. In a journal written titled "Network centrality, group density, and strength of social identification in college club sport teams," it was found that athletes that connected with their teams formed a stronger sense of social identification. This identification helped to build relationships within these teams. This led to the promotion of teamwork among the group. This is one of the things I see the most being a part of an experience as such. This environment provides me a place to enjoy myself outside of basic on campus clubs.
In another article titled "Participation in Sports Clubs during College Is an Important Factor Associated with School Counselors' Participation in Leisure Time Activities," it was also found that club sports promote an environment in which physical activity is encouraged. This is an additional benefit that goes great along with the social benefits of club sports.
