This story is narrated by a battle-tested Roman officer. The reader will see familiar events through unfamiliar eyes, and consider the meaning of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection from the perspective of one trained to recognize power, authority, and truth.
The execution of Jesus would stand in sharp contract with wartime encounters of this Centurion. Here he is confronted by Jesus of Nazareth, a man who wielded no weapons and commanded no army. It was a Divine appointment. Marcus Servius watched Jesus die on that cross – and his life was changed forever.
The narrator is fictional. The events are real. Now, how should we respond?
