Canciller secures gold in EVRAA Meet; qualifies for Palarong Pambansa '25

Sam Canciller, a Grade 10 boxing champ of Tanauan National High School, made history for winning a gold medal in the 2025 EVRAA at Dolores, Eastern Samar.

Canciller got a gold medal in the Junior Boxing Boys Pin Category 44-46 kg via unanimous decision.

Meanwhile, Team Leyte boxers earned 3 bronze, 2 silver, and 2 gold medals where one gold was earned by Canciller.

With this victory, Canciller is set to represent Region VIII at the Palarong Pambansa 2025 that is set to happen in Laoag, Ilocos Norte.

Canciller is coached by Teacher Winston Catubig and trained by the Tanauan Boxing Association thru Franklin Minguel and

Dionisio Maninggo Jr.

Student journalists from Tanauan NHS joined the Basic Campus Journalism Training (BCJT) at EVSU - Tanauan on January17-18, 2025, hosted by An Batingaw.

The training covered news, editorial, feature, and headline writing, photojournalism, and newsletter layout. Speakers included Ronald Reyes (SunStar), Ed Tiquen (LNU), and Matthew Jolo Palacio (ACLC).

A mini-contest was held, where TNHS writers won multiple awards:

Sulapas dominates Villaba, Leyte boxing ring

John Cydric Sulapas showcased his exceptional boxing skills as he secured a decisive victory against his opponent from Villaba, Leyte via unanimous decision during the Binakbakay sa Villaba on January 19, 2025.

Under the guidance of his dedicated coach, Mr. Winston Catubig, Sulapas displayed remarkable strength, technique, and determination in the 46-48kg bout. Earlier in the tournament, he also dominated his match against a competitor from Calubian, Leyte, proving his prowess in the ring.

The highly anticipated boxing event took place at the Villaba, Leyte Gymnasium last night, drawing an enthusiastic crowd of spectators, supporters, and sports enthusiasts. The tournament featured intense matchups between promising young boxers, all vying for victory and recognition in the local boxing scene.

TNHS Concludes Exit Conference for EVSU-Tanauan Practice Teachers

After months of immersive classroom experience, student teachers from Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) - Tanauan Campus officially concluded their practice teaching through an exit conference held at the HE Building.

The conference was facilitated by School Principal IV Richard N. Laurente, alongside cooperating teachers from the TLE, MAPEH, and Science departments.

During the event, each student teacher was given the chance to share heartfelt messages of appreciation and reflection.

For many years, Tanauan National High School has proudly served as a training ground for aspiring educators from EVSU, continuing its legacy of nurturing future teachers.

TNHS Senior High Learner Wins Gold in Palarong Pambansa 2025

Jecel Vivas, a Senior High School student from Tanauan National High School, proudly brought home the gold medal in the 400m Hurdles (Secondary Girls) event during the Palarong Pambansa 2025, representing Region VIII.

Joining the spotlight is Shienna Sarsonas of Albuera, Leyte, who earned a silver medal in the same category—showcasing Eastern Visayas' strength in athletics.

Also featured in the event are TNHS’s very own Teachers Arlelyn Peralta and Vicente Jr. Abuda Bajado, who serve as part of the athletics coaching staff for the Leyte Division.
