TANAUAN NHS THROUGH THE YEARS
Tanauan National High School had its humble beginning in July 1968 as San Roque Barrio High School occupying and sharing classrooms with the elementary school. Rodrigo Resma, an elementary school principal, acted as secondary school head. As years went by, increased enrollment prompted the school to hire new teachers.
In 1973, the school transferred to its new location at PHILCAG near the Embarcadero River. The succeeding year gave way to the school's new name San Roque Barangay High School. Also in this year, four were added to the roster of teachers. When Mr. Resma passed away in 1962, Mr. Benjamin De Veyra took over as the new school principal. In 1984, Mr. De Veyra transferred and Mrs. Teresita Coquia, a faculty member, was designated as OIC.
In 1989, the school transferred to its new location again in Barangay Canramos adjoining Tanauan II Central School. In 1988, more buildings were constructed, NALCO, DECS, DWH, and SEDP buildings which consist of a model home, three-classroom two-story building, a science laboratory, a library, and a principal's office.
In 1991, Congressman Cirilo Montejo passed a bill making all barangay high schools adopt a new name - National High School. Hence, the school got its name Tanauan National High School (Tanauan NHS).
On September 25, 1992, a certification was issued by the Department of Education Culture and Sports allowing the school to permanently occupy 9,999.72 square meters, a portion of the 36,449 square meters owned by Canramos Central School, Tanauan II District, Leyte.
In 2005, an annex school was opened at Barangay Cabuynan, Tanauan to give better and more access to the students from the Northern barangays. Also in that same year, the former Municipal Mayor Roque A. Tiu, donated an added lot with more or less area of 1,856 square meters. The school owns a land with a total area covering 10,000.51 square meters as it appears in tax declaration No. 308002 00967 R13 issued last June 26, 2014.
