Almost all portable electronics (cellphones, laptops, electric shavers) will work for a voltage range between 100 volts to 240 volts so we don't need an adaptor to convert our 110v devices to their 220v. However, their plug shape is different so we do need a plug adapter, Here is an example:
We will have Wi-Fi available in the hotels and most places such as coffee shops, restaurants, libraries, grocery stores (Coop and Migros), train stations, airports, etc. You can also check with your phone company to see if you have any free services during international travel. For example, many T-Mobile contracts have free international data and text included.
Download areas and navigate offline: Download Switzerland, Bern, and Lucerne maps to your phone. This way you don't need to have a connection to use your map.
Optionally add WhatsApp to your phone so we can make a chat group for our communication during travel.
Swimwear just in case...
If you intend to jump in the Aare River, I recommend a Dry Bag. This keeps your phone, wallet, and other personal items dry and gives you extra buoyancy. Here is an example:
The higher altitudes in the Alps are often cold even in summer, so bring one set of warm clothes and a versatile pair of comfortable/waterproof shoes.
Swiss Federal Railways manages all transportations in Switzerland. You can get their app or use their website sbb.ch or for englis https://www.sbb.ch/en/home.html for all travel related information (trains, busses, and boats). Additionally, when you register with their WIFI at any station and you will get free internet access at 80 stations throughout Switzerland.
