Manish Shetty grew up in Mumbai, India. He received his B.Tech. in Chemical Engineering and M.Tech in Chemical Engineering with a specialization in Process Systems Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay in 2011. He worked as an Associate Consultant at Bain & Company post his undergraduate studies.

He completed his PhD also in Chemical Engineering, from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2017 where he researched under Prof. Yuriy Roman and Prof. William Green. His PhD research was focused on the catalytic valorization of biomass through the deoxygenation of biomass-derived platform molecules.

He then was a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Integrated Catalysis at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory under Prof. Johannes Lercher. Post PNNL, he completed his postdoctoral training in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science at the University of Minnesota under Prof. Paul Dauenhauer

He started his independent career as an Assistant Professor in Chemical Engineering at Texas A&M University in Fall 2021. His laboratory focuses on the development of catalytic materials for sustainable chemistry applications.

Outside of the lab, Prof. Shetty likes reading and hiking the trails in the national parks across the country with his wife, Ashwini, and spending time with their son, Neel.
