"Green was the silence, wet was the light, the month of June trembled like a butterfly."
-Pablo Neruda
With the boys that I am working with this summer, I have decided to try and create a Virtual Discussion Board, the only thing is - both boys are on different reading comprehension and interest levels. So they are reading two different books and are exploring different aspects of each book. For the boy, let's call him Andrew, who is on a higher reading level, I am having him read, Amal Unbound. We are exploring the social dynamics and other social issues of Amal's community and the impact it has directly on her.
We decided upon this book because Andrew, earlier in the year, read the Night Diary and was interested in the evolution of Pakistan and so I suggested Amal Unbound, to compliment the Night Diary. Although both book describe two different cultures, I thought it would help Andrew see and acknowledge the many aspects that culture can play on a community.
For our Summer Reading Discussion, I created a Padlet that highlights one leering question, thought, concerns, or idea from a series of 4 or so chapters.
