Esports

What is esports?

Esports is a movement that allows people (specifically students in this case) to compete through video games. It refers to the entirety of the field. People have been competing since the first pinball machines kept track of the top scores. Who didn't want to see their initials at the top of the leader board on Pac Man? (I know some of you are too young to understand. That's okay.)

More than just Video Games

Today esports refers to more than just playing video games. There's an entire industry now around the competitions. ESPN even carries live competitions. From the live streams, to the broadcasts, to the shoutcasts (game announcers), esports is growing by leaps and bounds.

How to get started?

There are tons of ways to get started. The first is to find an organization that fits you and your school. Personally, I prefer NASEF (North American Scholastic Esports Federation). They offer free curriculum and opportunities for schools to compete with each other without an annual fee.
