Comments, Feedback, and Observations
In this lesson, anticipate generating comments, feedback and observations on the feasibility, appropriateness and relevance of concept.
What is Feedback?
Feedback refers to the information provided regarding the quantity or quality of a group's work, an evaluation of the effectiveness of the group's task or activity, or assessments of individual performances within the group.
Task and Procedural Feedback
Feedback at the task or procedural level typically addresses concerns related to the efficiency and suitability of actions taken. Evaluating the quantity and quality of group outcomes is the primary objective of task feedback.
Procedural Feedback
Gives details about the methods the group employed to reach its final result.
Individual Feedback
Feedback that is centered on particular group members is known as individual feedback. This type of feedback can focus on the knowledge, skills, or attitudes exhibited by a member of the group. A good starting point is to look at seven characteristics that influence an individual's effectiveness as a group member (Larson & LaFasto, 1989).
Types of Feedback
There are three different kinds of feedback that serve different purposes and imply different meanings. These include descriptive, evaluative, and prescriptive feedback. Each type has its own specific intent or function.
Descriptive Feedback
Descriptive feedback is when you give feedback that just describes how a team member communicates. You can talk about their communication style, or you can point out if their words and body language don't match up.
Evaluative Feedback
Evaluative feedback is when you give more than just a description and actually evaluate or assess the person who is communicating.
Prescriptive Feedback
Giving advice to group members on how to behave or communicate is called prescriptive feedback. It's not about pointing fingers, but more about helping everyone become more aware, learn, and set goals.
Relational Feedback
Relational feedback is when you get information about how the group is getting along or how they interact with each other. It's not about the tasks they're doing, but more about how they work together as a team.
Group Feedback
Group feedback at this stage primarily centers around evaluating the group's performance.
